I have a relatively dormant PhpBB on a dot com.  I notice that almost daily, I get new registrations that I need to approve (and, I dont approve them), when I go look at the registration, they invaribly have a URL in their Homepage that is for some loan company, viagra, books, whatever.

I suspect that these people are not doing this manually, on Boards they randomly find.  Is there such a thing as a script or bot that does this?  If so, where can I read about them?  Thanks

There are scripts and bots that automate the process for spammers.  The scripts are made to find and attack a specific script:  i.e. phpBB, SMF, vBulletin, etc.

Two of our SMF sites were hit in August by a bot which sent porn PMs to all members on the sites.  The bot sent 200 PMs to TT members during the 4 minutes it was logged in.

We solved the problem by installing a captcha mod for registrations and PMs.

Go to phpBB's forum and search for similar problems to find a solution.  If you don't have a captcha mod installed, install one.

Thx.  I had did a little research on PhpBB userforums, about a month ago.  They weren't, at the time, talking very much about the problem, although there was some small talk.  I figured you'se would have a more comprehensive solution and would answer my question, quicker.  Thx again!
