eBay names former Yahoo Asia CTO as new head of its China Development Center
Press release:

Quote: eBay Names Dr. Daniel Lee General Manager of China Development Center

Former Yahoo! Asia CTO Will Lead Expansion of eBay’s China-Based Research and Product Development Efforts to Benefit the Global eBay Platform

eBay Inc. today announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel Lee as general manager for the eBay China Development Center (CDC) in Shanghai, China. Dr. Lee brings more than 30 years of technical experience to eBay. In this position, Dr. Lee will be responsible for managing operations and leading the expansion of the CDC, eBay’s first development center outside the U.S.

Working with a world-class team of engineers at the CDC, Dr. Lee will lead research and product development on various projects for the global eBay platform. eBay plans to add engineering talent to the CDC in 2007 as the development center continues to play an integral role in the evolution of the eBay platform. Dr. Lee will report to Jack Xu, eBay vice president of engineering and research & eBay Technical Fellow.

"Daniel brings to eBay a wealth of experience in technology development and building regional management teams in Asia and will provide important strategic direction to further grow the CDC," said Xu. "Daniel adds to eBay’s deep bench of world-class technical talent, and we’re excited to have him join the team."

Dr. Lee joins eBay from Yahoo!, where he most recently served as the chief technology officer and engineering operations director for North Asia. In this position, Lee was responsible for building the technical management team and regional infrastructure for Yahoo! North Asia.

"I’m thrilled to be able to join eBay and contribute to the development of a platform that enables hundreds of millions of people around the world to communicate and transact,” said Dr. Lee. “eBay has successfully tapped into the exceptional engineering talent in China to support its global business, and I look forward to driving this effort forward.”

Prior to Yahoo!, Dr. Lee held several management positions at HP, including manager of the imaging technology department and director of R&D for HP’s Internet Imaging Operation. Additionally, Dr. Lee conducted research in the areas of Visual Communications at the Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR) in Japan, and Data Compression research IBM Research. He began his career as a research assistant at Stanford Information Systems Laboratory, Stanford University.

Dr. Lee holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
