Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
We were hit by a heavy winter storm throughout the state from the 29th through the 31st. Major freeways were closed, the airport was mostly closed, malls were closed, etc.
I have some photos from the storm, although I was unable to capture the freezing fog (an almost surreal experience). I'll try to describe that in words. These photos are from the beginning of the storm, mid day on the 29th of December. Stark bush and large home The Buddha watches the snowfall begin (Buddha never got covered) Snow coming down (Buffalo & Cow) Red Leaf Photina Withheavy coverage First few hours I'm resizing the pics from the middle and after.

Your pics convey what we are supposed to look like right now----covered in snow and ice, etc.----except more of it.
Alas, we have not had any snow this winter, unless you count a few light flurries. First time in my life this has occurred. Weird weather patterns. Anyway, I hope all is well there now. Good pics, btw! PS// Have you watched "An Inconvenient Truth" yet? |

The snow looks so clean and white. :blinkie: Why isn't it gray (like NYC snow)?

Great pics!
I'm in Western NY and can't get over the winter (or lack of) we're having. Not missing the snow at all but feel sorry for those of you that aren't used to it! Keep warm!!

Re: Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
I've got more pics on the way. Had to make a run to the store.
New Mexico used to get heavy snow (just like the Mojave Desert in CA) before the "climate change" shifted it over the past few decades. This, therefore, is more like the "old days"--except the city wasn't prepared. Nor were we. We set a city record for the most snowfall in one day, and the snow was preceded and followed by more snow. In town I noticed a lot of broken branches and tree limbs (not the maples, but less sturdy trees like cottonwoods, rose locusts, etc.).

Re: Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
More from 12.29.
Snow on Juniper - the juniper was later totally buried by another foot. I went out and removed snow later to keep branches from breaking. I was unable to get too many pics form Saturday during the worst snowfall (didn't want to get the camera wet and didn't want to find an umbrella, LOL). I tried to capture the freezing fog but it never came out right. I've never seen freezing fog before. From 12.30 Buddha is losing his space Truck in the snow The car we dug out on 12.31 Robinia Neomexicana branches and trunk stuffed Same tree as above The branches of the Robinia were frozen and buried to the top of the Volvo and stuck. LOL. From 12.31 After the clouds parted Sandia Crest Aglow with Pink Fire - A fantastic sight. A big expensive house with no way to get out of the big expensive driveway 1.02 From this morning. Icicles forming above the walk, ready to pierce your eye out: Ice

As inconvenient as weather can be, I miss it when things aren't they way they used to be. When I lived in the Mojave Desert (California) we used to get fantastic, deep snow storms up until the late 80s. They are gone now, with rarely even a flurry. Things certainly have changed. It must be strange for you to experience a complete lack of snow while we get hit with a record snowfall over a one day period... Different areas of the valley got hit with 14 - 24" of snow in 24 hours (or less), with additional accumulation. Our area got the 22" - 24" range. I'm sure it doesn't seem like much to those living in areas where your record might be 4 feet in one day (LOL), but for a city where nobody has chains, snowplows only hit the mountain roads, and such--it stopped the entire city. After an additional accumulation, the air warmed up just enough for bottom layers of snow to melt, then immediately re-freeze, causing super duper ice slicks. Our driveway snow (and cars) were on top of a plate of smooth black ice. Weird weather patterns. Anyway, I hope all is well there now. Good pics, btw! PS// Have you watched "An Inconvenient Truth" yet?[/quote] Not yet. It's on my must-watch list. Eclectica said: Quote:Great pics! Truth said: Quote:I see where our lack of a winter went. Re: Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
I don't have any pictures, and you just had to be here to believe it. It snowed for over 15 hours with no breaks. Thentavius according to the farmer's almanac January is going to be rough. There is a possibility of a blizzard at some point. We bought my youngest son who is an avid weather nut the movie an Incovenient Truth. Everyone should see it. It is so interesting.
We only got out of our driveway because my hubby spotted a neighbor on the next street had a backhoe. He and my oldest son hiked down to the man's house and paid him to come shovel out our driveway. It was full of snow as my hubby and boys shoveled off our flat roof. We were concerned as the snow was so heavy. There is another snow storm heading here this weekend. It has also been so cold that it will take a long time for this snow to melt. :blinkie: |
