Tips for Choosing a Domain Name
Tips for Choosing a Domain Name
Choosing the right domain name for your product is very important. Whether you're just starting out on an internet business or seasoned internet marketer, it doesn't matter. As important as it is, however, it does not determine the overall success or failure of your online business, but it will definitely affect almost every aspect of your business. Here are some tips on choosing a successful domain name: First things first, the type of domain name you should register. The .Com extension Take a look around, everyone is using it. It does not take a genius to figure out that .com is the number one choice of most internet businesses. I know, I know...There are plenty of alternatives available like .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, etc. and you feel like using them to make your website name more unique... But did you know that people are more inclined to automatically type ".com" when typing in almost any web address? Once you have decided on the extension of your domain name, you should decide on the name of your address. The name should be short Try to keep below 15 characters. Usage of numbers and hyphens make it more difficult for the average person to type and remember. Make the name ridiculously easy to remember Most people don't bother to save website addresses. This is very dangerous especially if they found your website by chance, and your link is not easily searchable. Include Keywords in Your Domain Name Try your best to include 1 or 2 keywords in your domain name. Many of the experts believe this can help with the way some of the search engines index and rank your site. Search for Deleted Domain Names Domain names that were once registered but have expired turn up every day. Some because of carelessness and some are going out of business. It is worth a try because some of these deleted domain names have links to them (built in free traffic). With some luck and hard work, you might be able to find some really cool names. You can search for deleted domains at http://www.deleteddomains.com Check for Trademarks You should do this before registering your domain name. Search as many existing trademarks as possible and look for possible conflicts. Obviously you don't want to have any legal problems right? You can do a trademark search here: http://www.uspto.gov http://www.thomasregister.com Finally, a really cool website you can use to churn up really (I mean really) good domain names which you can consider: http://www.nameboy.com/ Enjoy! Quote:But did you know that people are more inclined to automatically type ".com" when typing in almost any web address? That's so very true. Whenever I go to this one particular site that I don't have bookmarked and manually type in the URL I always put .com always forgetting it's a .net ending. Hmmm, I guess I really should bookmark it so that I don't have that problem anymore. |
