WordPress 2.1 worth the upgrade
Quote: WordPress 2.1 was released a few weeks ago with a host of new features, including the ability to save pages as drafts, improvements for file uploading, import and export features, and performance improvements. Is it time to upgrade or switch to 2.1? While the latest release doesn't really add any killer features to entice users to switch from other blogging software, the new features are worth the upgrade if you're already using WordPress...

A smooth upgrade...

I backed up my wordpress directory and MySQL database before upgrading my WordPress 2.0.7 blog.

Again, the upgrade worked just fine. After launching WordPress 2.1 for the first time, all I had to do was to click a button for the upgrade and WordPress took care of the rest. I haven't noticed any glitches or problems after the upgrade, just a handful of new features and performance improvements....

WordPress 2.1 Pros and Cons
Another review of WordPress 2.1:

Quote:Stuff That Bugs Me

  1. No ‘Previwe Post’ link when writing a post. This really gets me as I preview my post quite often. Granted the functionality is still there, you just have to scroll down to see it.

  2. No Firefox spell check. Seeing as my spelling isn’t the best, I rely on Firefox’s spell check quite often. However, the new WYSIWYG editor doesn’t work with Firefox’s spell check and no red-underlined words makes me think I spelt everything correctly. Now I have to make a point to hitting the spell check button.

  3. Oddly enough, the new built in spell check doesn’t know the word Wordpress...

Re: WordPress 2.1 worth the upgrade
I am having tons and tons of problems with spammers posting comments on my wordpress blog.  It is almost to the point to where I am going to just shut it down, it is so bad.

I have it set to where I have to approve the posts, but it is still at least 10-20 spam posts per day and getting to be a pain.

I am to the point where I am blocking ip addresses one after another to keep them from posting.

Re: WordPress 2.1 worth the upgrade
We're using B2evolution on both the "article center" and "cart demos" sections here and we haven't had a problem with comment spam...yet.  We were having a problem with trackback spam and so we finally disabled trackbacks.

Good luck with that.  We've blocked 100s of IPs from our directories and we're still getting a few hundred spammed submissions per day.
