According to this article and others that I've read, they are using TOR(The Onion Router)  to hide their digital traces.

However, an article from March 2 claims that TOR may have been compromised:

The network offers users a greater degree of anonymity, since Web sites record the IP address of a visiting machine, which could be linked to an individual user. Tor's creators say they were aware of the research, but...
