Change to Amazon Marketplace Shipping Credits and Variable Closing Fees

The United States Postal Service will increase postal rates on May 14, 2007. To reflect these changes, we will increase Marketplace shipping credits for Books, Music, Movies, Video Games and Software, effective May 14th. The increases will range from $0.39 to $2.51 depending upon the product category and shipping method. In addition, we will implement modest increases to the variable closing fees in these product lines. 

A full list of the changes compared with today’s rates is set forth in the charts below. Here is a short summary of the changes:

1. The Books, Video Games and Software standard shipping credit will be increased from $3.49 to $3.99.

2. The Music, DVD and VHS standard shipping credit will increase from $2.59 to $2.98.

3. The Books, Video Games and Software variable closing fee will increase from $1.20 to $1.35.

4. The Music, DVD and VHS variable closing fee will be increased from $0.70 to $0.80.

I like $2.98 per CD much more than I like Alibris' new $2.65 or Half's $2.39.

In response to the United States Postal Service decision to eliminate the small international shipping envelope on May 14, we recognize that most sellers will select the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope for international shipment of VHS (and other) products. Accordingly, we will increase shipping credits for VHS International from $6.89 to $12.29 as of May 23 at 11pm Pacific.

The Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope costs $9 to Canada and Mexico, and $11 to all other countries served. Dimensions are 9.5" x 12.5". Maximum weight is 4 pounds. More information can be found via the USPS.gov site at:
