Critical Windows patch may wreak PC havoc
Quote: A Microsoft patch meant to fix critical security flaws in Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 is causing trouble for some users, the company said Friday.

The patch was released Tuesday to fix four Windows flaws, including one that experts predict will be exploited by a worm in the coming days. The flaw, tagged "critical" by Microsoft, lies in a Windows component for transaction processing called the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator, or MSDTC.

Installing the patch can cause serious problems, Microsoft said in an advisory.... The patch could lock users out of their PC, prevent the Windows Firewall from starting, block certain applications from running or installing, and empty the network connections folder, among other things, the software maker said.

Re: Critical Windows patch may wreak PC havoc
My new Dell  PC has gone thru several self-induced/automatic critical updates in the last few days. I am assuming they are the new MS patches.  Certain programs are having a tendency to lock up on me.  I am not pleased........ >Sad  BangHead

I haven't had any problems with the updates on XP Pro yet.  The Microsoft security advisory link in the first post has a few steps you can take manually to correct some of the problems.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site.
best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011

Well.  None of the stated problems in the above link (most of which sounded Greek to me anyways), are what I am experiencing.  Perhaps diger can translate better...........then again, being that it's MS, maybe not.  Laughing7
