What's changing?
eBay Australia’s category structure will be undergoing significant change in July, August and September. It is moving toward a new platform which will deliver more relevant results for buyers. This platform relies on more than just category structure to help locate items and includes keywords, colour, brand, product type, as well as price, condition etc.

Why is it changing?
eBay Australia's category structure will evolve to become a list of product types rather than a hybrid system that inconsistently includes aspects such as brand, colour etc. This will help facilitate the 75% of buyers who search for their items.

The goal is to allow sellers to classify items broadly, without being forced into a rigid category structure.

This is being done with two key principles in mind:
# Simplify category choice for buyers and sellers alike.
# Create a consistent language, grammar and classification style.

A new, broader category structure will no longer support product aspects such as colour and brand so you should continue to list these aspects in your item title and within item specifics. Another aim is to reduce the duplication of categories so it's more obvious where to list and buy the item you’re looking for.

Do you need to do anything?
Another announcement will be made to let you know in advance of any changes being made so there is as little disruption to you as possible. If you sell on eBay, you will eventually be asked to adjust any recurring listings to reflect the new category numbers. Turbo Lister settings will also require updating.

Such a significant improvement will help create a more efficient finding experience on eBay.
