eBay China auction Site Offers Human Babies For Sale

Human baby boys and girls were put on auction on eBay China this week.  This is the second incident in the past month involving human babies and children being sold on an eBay owned site.  Last month a baby was put up for auction on eBay Germany (http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...ml#msg1827)

Shanghai police are investigating advertisements offering babies for sale on a Chinese Web site owned by Internet auction power eBay, state media said on Thursday.


The ads, which appeared on the Eachnet site on October 16, promised babies under 100 days old from the impoverished central province of Henan at prices of 28,000 yuan for boys and 13,000 yuan for girls, the China Daily said.

Tang, the Eachnet spokesman, said the identity of the purported seller was unclear and it wasn't known whether the offer was serious or an attempt at fraud.

"The seller is very strange. They never bought or sold anything on Eachnet before and we really don't know what their real aim is," Tang said.

The man was arrested on 28th October.  The auction appeared October 16th.  News of the arrest broke yesterday.

Police have detained a man on charges of posting an advertisement offering babies for sale on the Chinese arm of auction website eBay in what he says was a joke.
