Internet is a Series of Tubes Senadumbtor Calls for Universal Internet Filtering
Quote:US senators today made a bipartisan call for the universal implementation of filtering and monitoring technologies on the Internet in order to protect children at the end of a Senate hearing for which civil liberties groups were not invited.

Commerce Committee Chairman Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Vice Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) both argued that Internet was a dangerous place where parents alone will not be able to protect their children.

“While filtering and monitoring technologies help parents to screen out offensive content and to monitor their child’s online activities, the use of these technologies is far from universal and may not be fool-proof in keeping kids away from adult material,"...

And more of our civil liberties going "down the tubes". :Smile

I am SO sick of hearing that parents can not prevent their children from encountering porn, etc., online. It is NOT true, IMO!! Yes, it requires an actual ongoing, concerted effort on the part of the parent, but it IS doable without impacting the rest of the friggin' country!!!!!!!!!!  DOWN with lazy parents! Tongue2

The Corrupt Tube Man found guilty on 7 counts

Quote:The trial of Sen. Ted Stevens was at times sloppy, chaotic and bogged down in contradictory testimony — but in the end, the federal jury took swift and decisive action in branding the Alaska senator a corrupt politician who violated the trust of his office.

In a historic decision that leaves one of the Senate’s giants in political limbo, Stevens, 84, was convicted on seven counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in improper gifts and home renovations he received from 1999 to 2006...
