Re: eBay Stores October Brown Bag for Stores! Wednesday 10/26 11am PDT
You know that’s about the same time many of us started seeing our sales drop at the bay.
I was still selling a bit on Yahoo and on my site but ebays sales just really started to take a dive around then.

I spent a few months doing what I think many did. Trying all kinds of different price formulations, dressing up our auctions, adding different products or lines or products.

All kinds of stuff.

All thinking it was us. I started poking around and found the “Community Boards”.
Like most others I’ve talked too back then, many of us didn’t
even know they were there or never paid attention to them.

But once things started going downhill I guess it is in all our natures to try and find out why right?

Well low and behold the “Tech. Boards” were full of all kinds of problems then and Poed users (if not before then) and ebay was and still is messing with categories and adding “features” left and right and still pizzing off users all the time.

I remember when they enlarged their headers to the point that all our information on any given auction page was way down the screen and a customer would have to scroll down to see what we had for sale.

I remember one night showing my mom my ebay stuff.
She was sitting at her puter and when the page came up she just looked at it and said
“where is your stuff?”

I had to tell her she needed to scroll down with her mouse because ebay has changed how the pages look to viewers.

REMEMBER in the good old days when your pages came up YOUR stuff was right there to see?
(At least a very large portion of it was.

I remember wondering how many others went to ebay, loaded a page of someone’s stuff and just sat their not knowing they needed to scroll down to see what they were looking for and just clicked off the page and site because all they saw was all of ebays oversized (header) blather in their face and didn’t know any better to actually hold down the left button on their mouse and grab the scroll bar on the right side of the screen and pull down on the mouse to actually see what they came there looking for in the first place.

I think just about all the changes ebay has made over the last few years
have no doubt been a detriment to all the users.

I also believe as a result of ebays endless changing of things and other factors
like rampant fraud etc.. they have run off a large segment of the buyers.

It is as if ebays tinkering crews have forget (or never learned)
one main thing about human nature.

IMO We are creatures of habit and we like things that are familiar and we like consistency.
We normalize our everyday lives from those things.
When things are always changing, then we tend to turn away or reject those changes
and look for something else that has the consistency that makes us feel comfortable
and once again normal.

Make any sense?

Thanks Star..
I was sure I was not alone in seeing things this way.

So how is it that these supposed marketing gurus and professionals
(cough cough) ebay hires can’t see that what they are doing is killing the site
and the “vibrancy” of the market?

How is it that MEG and her team CAN’T see this either?

Are they really just that stupid?

First they run off a good portion of the buyers with constant glitches and changes.

Then they create an atmosphere that makes everyone left feel as
if no one on ebay can be trusted and make us all feel
we need to were a SPP or BPP condom.
So we can be SAFE to trade on the bay?

Then they raise the fees to the point that the sellers either have
to start their items so low (to avoid higher fees) that they
stand a good chance they will be giving their items away.
Or they have to JACK their shipping so high just to make a small profit.

Which in turn… Turns OFF even MORE buyers.

I mean to me anyway, this is pretty much common sense stuff here.

If those idiot would all just sit back over there for a day or two and reflect.

They may see that they are in fact being VERY counter productive.

Obviously, Meg and team know there are problems or else they would not
be out diversifying and buying up other companies
in an effort to bring in more revenue.

They see the numbers.
They see the stock price devalued.
They know that the site is NOT generating the traffic or sales it used to.
They MUST know that a large portion of it’s “Community” are pissed
off and looking to bail.

So why don’t they make the necessary adjustments to turn things around?

I could be done but for whatever reasons they just don’t seem to want to.

That I think is what bugs me and so many the most about them.

I have no idea why it's so bad.  I know zilch about programming.  My instinct is that it's just too huge and unwieldy to be able to *fix* anything.  They just keep adding to the gargantuan entity, and it stays sorta glued together somehow -- sort of.  Reminds me of the queen ant, with her overly huge bloated body, and all the thousands of worker ants crawling all over her to make sure she stays alive and functioning.  Sort of.  Not very well.

I've often thought that too.
I built my own website from scratch and just the basics can be daunting.

With all the code they use. Scripts, forms and all, I could see where
it could be a BIG problem for them.

But you would think they know that and would
QUIT putting even more codes and "enhancements" in.

Because they have no common sense what so ever

Again no common sense

Anyone see a pattern?  Wink

Btw the boards today are full of nothing but complaints about all the glitches and stores not showing.  Makes me sooo glad I closed mine and dont have to deal with that  :action033:
