Similarly, if the data center has a single 100 Mbps (megabits per second) link coming in from the outside world, and they have 100 customers each displaying equal and similar usage statistics over a 24 hour period, the math says that their data center is not capable of getting you much above the 1 Mbps mark, which is one-third the speed of your average T1. One of the main reasons for using a data center instead of hosting it yourself has to do with the significant bandwidth advantages provided.
