Re: Sneaky's Alternative Auction Site Sales (GMV - Gross Merchandise Value) Guide
Overstock question:
Quote:Since the OA seller forum is still down, I have to ask this question here.
2 replies in 10 hours, ending with a Mod's reply:
Quote:Overstock auctions FAQ/customer care:

http://help.auctions.overstock.com/cgi-bin/overstock_auctions.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=RFEvZiYi&p_accessibility=0&p_li=&p_lva=826&p_sp=

Even though the O auction forums are down I'm quite sure they still have customer support. At least I hope they do
http://powersellersunite.com/post-247420.html#247420

Which proves why PSU is not at all a breeding ground for a real business, and should never be the place to get info about a business.

Not one person even cared to post, but elgato found it necessary to let the poster know that it should be handled with Overstock.

I wonder why this never happened when Probid site forums went down (namely Plunderhere) that have less than 1/4 the sales/visits/hits in a month that O auctions has in a day?

I wonder why the AM and Bonanzlers haven't been told the same thing when they have a problem posted?

What about the meanderings of a certain UK site owner who decided to let the world know on PSU that his sites were hacked?

All of these problems posted about a different site should have been handled within the site's available resources, but they were discussed at great length by the members and mods. Not Overstock questions though.
And the last pondering...
Perhaps all the problems stem from certain trusted and knowledgeable folks saying only certain types scripts and coding is OK. A perfect example is this:
Quote:rScript is outdated, bug infested, and written in an outdated language which was problematic from its inception.  It's (the outdated language) equivalent is attempting to run Vista on an Atari 800 XL.
http://www.powersellersunite.com/viewtopic.php?t=21211&highlight=rscript+outdated#192255
Real businesses use PHPProBid wearing just their boxers and t-shirt. Only dummies dress up for work.
That's why real programmers at eBay, Amazon, and Overstock all use a combination of Perl (the outdated language) PHP, and ASP built by real programmers in real suits in a real office in a real building with a real company's name on the front door.

Real alternative site owners like ASs run their sites from their mother's basement and use fake LLC names and are assisted by programmers who use multiple fake LLC names and list a rented mailbox as their corporate headquarters. Confusedtolensmiley:

Re: Sneaky's Alternative Auction Site Sales (GMV - Gross Merchandise Value) Guide
From PSU:
Quote:It's in 12 days and counting...

if they can keep all other sites (shopping/auction, etc.) up and running, there's not reason they can resolve this in a short time (I am talking hours, not days, even weeks). of cause, unless there are something else going on, which they don't want us to know, at least not yet. I love OA, still do, wish they handle this matter differently instead of ignoring/avoiding questions from us.

That's right, they are doing a fantastic job keeping their shopping sections up and running. It's called putting your time where the money is, unlike a rinky dink site that puts their money where their games and contests are. In fact, I had 7 of 10 auctions close tonight with bids, 6 with more than 1 bid, 3 with 3 or more bids. Grand total was more than 4 times the total average monthly sales of a PH, aSs, WP, and double the average AM member monthly sales. I'd say a 70% sell through is better than every single rinky dink alternative combined. My fees for those sales were 25% of WP store fees, and about the same as fees on PH or aSs... I just actually sold stuff at decent sale prices.

They also found the time to respond to my email about the forums (not that I really visit much, this was out of spite) where they explained there is no ETA on the forum, but told me to visit other selling forums (PSU was mentioned  Icon_puke_l ) if I needed assistance from members, or to contact them anytime with concerns or questions.
The time to respond? Email sent at 6 AM, reply received at 1PM. I wouldn't call that ignoring or avoiding my question about it.

The latest MilBid cumulative sales stats

Quote:Total Items Sold      321
Total Gross Sales      $1,962.78

Divide by 16 for the monthly averages. :Smile :blinkie:

Re: Sneaky's Alternative Auction Site Sales (GMV - Gross Merchandise Value) Guide
aSs stats for August to date:
http://www.alsoshop.com/sold_items.php?start=1249099201&end=1251777541
238 items sold out of 31,000 listed.
Site total this morning, 42 items with bids, 1 of which has 2 bids:
http://www.alsoshop.com/categories.php?start=0&parent_id=0&keywords_cat_search=&buyout_price=&reserve_price=&quantity=&enable_swap=&order_field=a.nb_bids&order_type=DESC

Overstock stats for 1 seller with 629 auctions listed: 351 items with bids, 193 of which have more than 1 bid, 46 having 10 or more bids, for a grand total of over 2000 bids on all items:
http://auctions.overstock.com/cgi-bin/auctions.cgi?PAGE=SEARCH&BYSELL=empireliquidators&TYPE=4&SORT=7

At least aSs has a fuzzy forum to find out wonderfully wrong information from the site admin:
Quote:Thats up to you... it takes 1 week to get properly indexed in the SE... like Google Shopping.. So a min of 2 weeks to even allow it to be seen.

http://www.alsoshop.com/community/showpost.php?p=95252&postcount=15

Amazing, mine are indexed in Google Products in 24 hours.
Must be that techie guru she has building her feed to Google, because he knows everything you know...  Happy001

Yet, she speaks with such authority...

Just an update...
I had 4 visitors on one site from Google Shopping since I first posted that, all of those came from new products on the site that I just uploaded last night, 16 hours ago, to Google Base.
Maybe she needs a new techie guru.

Mo is in a class with rinky dinks and always will be. She'd be gobbled alive in the presence of real site owners. She left PH thinking everyone would follow her. Based on her site statistics I'd say she's grossly miscalculated her level of popularity.

Another reason she fits in perfectly over at PaSmU. Not many real site owners over there...LOL
