kaqoo Wrote:Visits 85445 - This figure is the numbers of users who actually visited kaqoo.com

If that figure is from your log stats program (webalizer, etc) then some (many) of those visitors are spiders not people.  The Quantcast 2.1K figure for Kaqoo doesn't include spiders and it includes only unique visitors--not total visitors.  As an example of the disparity between Quantcast's unique (non spider) visitor count and the typical log analysis program's total visitor count (which includes spiders) - Quantcast shows 5.7K monthly uniques for (ZenCart) Tulipstuff.com, while the log stats show 28.8K unique visitors and 36.7K visits.  A 'total visits' stat which includes spiders for an ecommerce site is rather meaningless because spiders can't buy anything.

kaqoo Wrote:With 12 million pageviews a month, if aggregated by quantcast, Kaqoo would be probably the largest alternative venue.

Quantcast shows iOffer with 42 million and those 42 million page views are all on one site not spread out over 1000 websites.  iOffer's 42 million page views pale in comparison to the largest free alternative to eBay, craigslist, which receives over 9 BILLION monthly page views.

Re: New NASDAQ inspired auction site Wigix launches beta
To add as well, when compete and quantcast both have the same traffic estimates, that's a pretty good indicator of the actual number of visitors. Looking at some of the sites in the Kaqoo 'network' every single auction image that is loaded on one of the thousands(??? I can't find them) of sites gives a 'hit' to Kaqoo.com, as well as a new visitor. Most webalizer type stats collectors count the number of daily uniques, which if there are the same people from 'thousands' of sites that would explain the big differences between your stats and the quantcast/compete stats. The best way to check: I don't care how many individual hits I get, don't care how many page requests I have, and could really care less who is visiting most days since I always have from 1-7 bots and spiders crawling my sites at any given time. I look for the "Distinct Hosts" weekly report, it may be called something different on other webalizer programs, to see how many truly unique visitors I get. Then, I follow each of their traffic patterns and optimize my sites accordingly. Going off pure numbers of hits and visitors though, is just plain foolish and leads to some big failed plans.

And last, thanks for the offer to try it out here, but I wouldn't try any software on a server where someone may actually register on an unsecured connection. And, from what I see from the download, there really isn't a way to ensure the login and registration pages are SSL enabled.

Spiders love us. Half of of those Webalizer logfile report visitors are spiders.  The Google Analytics Absolute Unique Visitors report (15,867 uniques) is a better indication of people visitors than the log files.
