eBay UK Bans Grandfathered .Com User IDs

***eBay’s user ID and Shop name policy***

eBay provides a great deal of flexibility for users to select a user ID and Shop name that meets their needs. Our User ID policy provides guidelines on what names are allowed.

As a reminder, you can't have user IDs or Shop names that represent an email or web address (URL), nor include a website address in your Shop header.

In the past, we have allowed certain user IDs registered before this policy came into place in November 2001 to contain URLs. In response to community feedback, we will be standardising our policy and removing this exemption.

If you were previously allowed to trade with a user ID or Shop name containing a URL, please update your user ID and Shop name by Thursday 2nd October to comply with our User ID policy.

AuctionBytes has not yet heard from eBay.com about whether it plans to follow the UK site with a move to revoke the exemption. Regardless, it appears US sellers would be unable to list items on the UK site with IDs that are accepted on eBay.com but banned on eBay UK.

In response to community feedback, we will be standardising our policy and removing this exemption.

If they were really responding to community feedback they would allow everyone to use URLs in their user IDs.
