Internet telephony relies upon the stability of the Internet. It has been demonstrated time and time again that while there may not be a digital Pearl Harbor, portions of the Internet can be significantly degraded for periods of time. In addition, making telephones into IP-capable devices means that you're now making them into smart devices and that they could be hacked.
