Ok, so I am a Boinktard!!
Ok, I think I am about ready, so give me your best shot. Joe, the BarKeep, before his family crisis, talked me into going after my dream.
I got tired of listing my Antiques and Collectibles on sites (eBay) where they got lost amongst all the millions of rip offs from China. I decided to set up a site that would have all the things I, as a seller, looked for in a site. It isn't quite ready for prime time yet, but I know I will get the best advise from you guys on what I am doing wrong.... and what I still need to do.... (Oh yeah, I know about needing buyers already, which is the hardest) Check out www.antiquetradingpost.com and let me have it! Belle |

Re: Ok, so I am a Boinktard!!
The only thing I really have against PHPProBid is the mods that are made for it. They cause very bad security holes in the software which are noted at Secunia and NSA.
http://www.networksecurityarchive.org/ht...00210.html "Don't let junior programmers add sort-by column features. The original design was much nicer than the later hacks." and here: http://secunia.com/Advisories/31981/ Apparently, if you use any "hacks" of PHPProbid that sort any information, it can expose the wrong info. Fortunately, there is light at the end of the tunnel. You don't have those hacks installed (wondering why anyone would use a "hack" in the first place?) What you have is just on the front page, so you should be OK. PPB is probably the best out of the box auction software there is as far as functionality, although I always prefered the design of Rscript when I was using the auction sites. The rest of the scripts I have seen, like PHPAuction and Mewsoft, have bad, bad, BAD security issues and are full of bugs. Scripts like Rainworx and Rscript can have a good look, but bad, bad, BAD functionality. The biggest issue I have always had with PHPProBid isn't the script itself, it's the vast majority of the site admins who think just buying the script and putting it on a host will make them the next big deal. There have been far more of these that have fallen than still standing today. The only ones I like to see come along, and always have thought could be a success, were those who catered only to a certain audience. The owners usually know every little detail of running a site within that niche, and it can be a success even if they are the only seller. I bought the script myself a couple years back, installed it and started using it as a very small niche site, but never really made it into anything. I tried again last summer, but had way too much going on to put any effort it. It's for the best, because the 5 sites I have running now are kicking major booty. Good luck with it. You know what you are selling, and what the others are selling, as well as how to market it. You should do fairly well if you keep your focus on the niche market and that your focus is your sales.
