Wow... Finally a recognized name getting into competition with the two gorillas.

Re: GoDaddy launches new marketplace...GoDaddy closes new marketplace
http://shops.godaddy.com/
First impression: It's well designed. Easy to navigate and search, of course there are few products so that may change. The venture is being largely ignored on PSU, with sites like Bonanzle (no name recognition) and Auctions8 (That nagging spinning globe PPB site) and Kuspe (?) being pimped far more to bump it down the list. This is a good thing, since the marketplace doesn't appear to cater to eBay alternative rummage sale stuff that you find on Bonanzle, Atomic Mall, Plunderhere, etc... Listing aspects: Quick one page lister, but with few products the "quick" could change. 2-Tier basic category structure, allows 3000 characters for the description, plus a 300 character short description. Up to 5 pictures, U.S. shipping only with AK/HI shipping separately charged at a different rate if you wish, keyword/tag list, and last, optional product values and attributes. Account setup: Payments are made by check or direct deposit. They are apparently held for 30 days until you reach a point where each sale is less than 10% of your total monthly sales, which is similar to Amazon's initial hold for new accounts. http://help.godaddy.com/article/4979

Re: GoDaddy launches new marketplace...GoDaddy closes new marketplace
Quote:The venture is being largely ignored on PSU It already qualifies for PSU's chart -13,000 listings Quote:Vendors issuing refunds will receive a return of 70% of the original commission charged; PayPal returns 100% of the fees when you issue a refund. Quote:orders with credit card chargebacks are subject to a $25 fee and will result in no return of original commission. Is GoDaddy planning to start fighting chargebacks? I found several complaints on domain forums from domain sellers that indicate they don't fight chargebacks on their domain name auction site. |

Quote:Listing aspects: Quote: Quickly import all your product listings The lack of a bulklister if you're not a Quick Shopping Cart user is a definite negative. You probably wouldn't save much time with the "quick import" feature unless you're a $49.99 monthly Quick Cart Premium user. |

Re: GoDaddy launches new marketplace...GoDaddy closes new marketplace
It's received more attention on PSU than Buy.com Marketplace, Pricegrabber Storefronts, or NewEggMall...a few more posts and it will be tied with Amazon which rarely is mentioned despite its 1.3 million 3P sellers.
Quote:the marketplace doesn't appear to cater to eBay alternative rummage sale stuff That type of merchandise never sold on Overstock Auctions either. Quote: You probably wouldn't save much time with the "quick import" feature unless you're a $49.99 monthly Quick Cart Premium user. The big question is will GoDaddy use the Marketplace primarily as a vehicle to drive additional sales of Quick Cart, domain names, and other GoDaddy products or will it actually promote the marketplace as a shopping destination for the average (non domain buying) online buyer.

Randy Smythe on GoDaddy's announcement:
Quote:The King of all online marketplaces (eBay) is wounded, so it makes sense that competition would rise up to take some of their business away, but when GoDaddy.com announces they will be launching a marketplace, it is getting ridiculous. full article: http://www.myblogutopia.com/2009/01/ever...place.html |

Quote:(2.9% + $0.30 PayPal fees)) Quote:Seller sells $25 lot of gently peed on adult clothing I pay PayPal 2.2% so my fees would be Bonanzle $1.85, AtomicMall $2.35 GoDaddy $2.50. |
