Edited to add:  This thing is scary:

Re: Apparently IT isn't working. eBay sellers complain of slow holiday sales
A couple of more threads on dismal holiday eBay sales.  A few sellers are saying that while their eBay sales stinketh, their web site sales are booming.

http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000137435&tstart=0

Not looking good for a lot of sellers who need their holiday sales "to boom" in order to pay the bills...really not looking good when you consider analysts are calling for weak 1st quarter online sales due to skyrocketing heating bills...and then of course eBay sellers can look forward to the like-clockwork annual January announcement of a fee increase.

Angel Wrote:The whole thing is just sad when the sellers are struggling so much.  I feel for them, some really need this to work so they can earn money for their families.  I really do hope things turn around for them.

Double ditto what Angel said.

EDITED to add: yet another thread has appeared:  http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000136517&tstart=0

Someone asks the question: Where Have all the buyers gone? and someone else answers:

Quote:To Amazon, Vendio, Tias, Ruby Lane, Craig's List, Biblio.com, Froogle, base.Google, (Half.com---they even compete with you within Ebay), personal web pages, Abe, Alibris and oodles of other places.

Why not rephrase the question: what am I paying all this money for?

eBay Shop Sellers Complain of Low Sales, Fewer Buyers, and Counterfeit Goods
November 2005 threads from the eBay UK Boards also complain of slow sales and low traffic:

Google update drops many eBay UK stores from search results:

Quote:Shop visitors have dropped to zero - any idea what's happened?
http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=200267939&tstart=0

eBay UK sellers complain of slow sales and eBay's reputation as a marketplace for counterfeit and inferior goods.

Since Google was mentioned  Smile it gives me an excuse to semi-hijack the thread and say I've never understood why people buy Google AdWords to direct people from the 'off-eBay world' to their eBay listings instead of to their web site where the profit margins would be higher.  If you can get people to click on a Google AdWords ad for your eBay Store , you can definitely get them to click on a Google AdWords ad for your Web Site .

What was the topic again?  :twistedevil:

Re: Apparently IT isn't working. eBay sellers complain of slow holiday sales
Yep--our eBay sales are MUCH slower than last year's. But for that matter, we haven't had good eBay sales since like 1999 or something. LOL. Whatever the reason--we're getting crap sales over there this weekend (at least). Maybe it's just us. On another OAI board, I saw a news article linked to (if I get time, I'll add the link here) that said eBay was having a stellar weekend and Black Monday (quoted from eBay's own people).

We have pretty much shut everything down to a bare minimum (our non-eBay websites) and are planning to open a physical retail shop, rather than deal with the hordes of emails, inquiries, and other bull that comes in each day.

Re: Apparently IT isn't working. eBay sellers complain of slow holiday sales
Our eBay sales are MUCH slower too than last year's, year before and the year before that.

Off topic a bit but to address BBH. I often wondered too why someone would direct a customer to an ebay store than to their website.

Back on topic: I think ebay will always lie and pump up the numbers no
matter what the real data and people (sellers) are saying.
It seems obvious to me though that ebay is indeed gong in the wrong direction worldwide.
