A teenage conman who swindled eBay customers out of thousands of pounds now wants to advise the internet auction site on tackling criminals, it emerged today.

Phillip Shortman, 18, of Pontypool, south Wales, was sentenced to 12 months’ detention in May this year after duping customers out of £45,000

Shortman claims that it was easy to carry out his fraud, and criticises security on the eBay site...

In response, eBay’s head of safety and security Gareth Griffiths tells the programme that he is keen to met Shortman to discuss a possible role...

A teenage swindler was yesterday told that he faces a jail sentence for conning eBay users, only months after he was sentenced for a similar scam that netted thousands of pounds.

Phillip Shortman, 18, of Cwmbran, south Wales, appeared at Newport crown court after pleading guilty at Abergavenny magistrates court in October to four counts of obtaining by deception property worth more than £8,000.

According to this article from The Telegraph, he signed up for new eBay and PayPal accounts while awaiting trial for conning eBay users out of £45,000

Shortman, while awaiting sentence for an earlier fraud involving £45,000, for which he was sent to a detention centre, again signed up for the site, using the secure payment service, Paypal.

Why, I thought it was very charitable of the UK safety and security head to say he would offer the convicted scammer a job  :twistedevil:

According to this article from The Telegraph, he signed up for new eBay and PayPal accounts while awaiting trial for conning eBay users out of £45,000

He probably signed up for the new accounts 5 minutes after his old ones were suspended.  :
