Generating Word-Of-Mouth Advertising
Quote:Blogs and social networks this holiday season are favorite targets of online marketers and advertisers. But getting the coveted word-of-mouth recommendation takes more than just money.

Isolani is one of a growing number of online retailers who are turning to  blogs and social networking sites this holiday season as another venue not just for advertising, but also for coveted word of mouth recommendations of their merchandise.

"You get hooked on blogs if you like the voice of the writer and the subject they're talking about. You'll read it everyday and have a high sense of trust about what the blogger is saying and the products they're reviewing," Isolani says. "This is definitely the next direction."

Word of Mouth: How to Get the Buzz Factor Working For Your Product or Service
Another article on word of mouth "buzz marketing":

Quote:...getting people to spread the word about your product or service is the real key to advertising success. Forget the fancy, expensive, and more traditional TV campaigns, and instead think about making your splash with a message that is entertaining, strange, or newsworthy.

the “Six Secrets of Buzzmarketing.” ...

First and foremost, he says, business owners need to rely on the first secret—pushing the six buttons of buzz. Hughes notes that to create a stir with marketing, business owners need to produce advertising that taps into the taboo (“sex, lies, bathroom humor”), the unusual, the outrageous, the hilarious, the remarkable, and the secret (“both kept and revealed”). The TV advertisement with grocery store manager Mr. Whipple squeezing the Charmin toilet tissue hit on a taboo—doing something he wasn’t supposed to do...

The second secret, capturing media attention...
...third secret also seems a little uninspired—advertise for attention...
The fourth secret...creative thinking outside the box; it happens by increasing the size of the box and reinventing your company or product...
the fifth secret—“Discover Creativity.” ...
sixth secret to buzz marketing—“Police Your Product.”...
