How Women and Men Use the Internet:Women Now Outnumber Men Online
Quote:The Internet was dominated by men in its early days, but by 2000 and continuing on to today, the user population has been evenly divided between men and women. Further, the proportion of women online is nearly equal to that of men. A review of the findings of the Pew Internet & American Life surveys between March 2000 and September 2005 highlights some particularly interesting trends and correlations: Young women are more likely to be online than young men. And black women have surged online in the last three years. full survey: http://www.pewtrusts.org/ideas/ideas_ite...em_id=3168&content_type_id=8&page=8&issue=10&issue_name=Society%20and%20the%20Internet&name=Grantee%20Reports related topics: Gender Matters: She clicks differently from how he clicks http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...132.0.html The Pros of Running Your Business Like a Girl http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...872.0.html Men Prefer Coupons, Women Prefer Sales, Everyone Prefers Free Shipping http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...721.0.html Design of Many ECommerce Web Sites May Not Appeal to Women http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...191.0.html |

The full report: http://www.pewtrusts.org/pdf/PIP_Women_Men_122805.pdf
Quote:Men like the internet for the experiences it offers, while women like it for the human connections it promotes Quote:Compared with women, online men are more likely to use the internet to: check the weather, get news, get do-it-yourself information, check for sports information, get political information, get financial information, do job-related research, download software, listen to music, rate a product/person/service through an online reputation Quote: Compared with men, online women are more likely to use the internet to: send and receive email, get maps and directions, look for health and medical information, use web sites to get support for health or personal problems, and get religious information. Quote:Men and women use the internet similarly for the many of the most standard kinds of transactions, from purchasing products to doing travel arrangements to banking. More men than women use the internet for some less predictable and even more risky transactions, such as doing auctions or trading stocks.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"
"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

Quote:More men than women use the internet for some less predictable and even more risky transactions, such as doing auctions I fit the stereotype. Never done online auctions, never plan to. |
