Too Many Online Music Stores Threaten to Derail Europe's Digital Music Market

Europe's 200 digital music stores are under threat from high label license fees and operating costs, according to a study by JupiterResearch. There are too many stores chasing too few customers, the study into the European download market concluded.

Jupiter forecasts that digital's percentage of music revenue in Europe will rise from 2.2 percent in 2005 to 16 percent in 2011. A large amount of future revenues are more likely to go to established players in the market and potential big players like Amazon and MTV.
