Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
C'mon. Someone help me out. How many listings does WP have on the Google and Froogle feeds? Poppers are claiming there are 94K, but I saw a different figure somewhere.

Has anyone else been following this rather bizarre thread on WP?

Thought you might get a kick out of this. Here's my sitemeter stats for the WP store. Now bear in mind, this store is near the top of page 2. Of course, if the really big stores keep closing, I'll be on page 1 in no time. WP is now just a place to keep my listings, until Brian's site is up and running. I just hope KaRay doesn't pull the plug (or eat the hamster) before then!

This is a quote from PSU Quote:I just checked Froogle and Google Base for "wagglepop.com" and only found around 70,000 listings on both. I am wondering if WP has stopped feeding to both, or if Google has stopped accepting an older RSS format from WP? If so, I would think this would be very pertinent information to share with sellers, and would certainly explain the huge drop in traffic. All my items are 10 day listings, and I can't find any on Froogle that were listed more than 5 days ago. Google Base/Froogle did change their requirements for the feeds to include attributes. According to the rscript site, they updated their software to reflect these changes. I wonder if Ray corrected the change? If not there is the possibility the feeds won't work correctly. Does anyone remember Ray posting this info. on the forum regarding the changes? Or posting that he updated WP to correct it?
I think this is the post you are looking for DB. Can't you think of another charity that is more deserving of your monthly donation?

Sounds ridiculous to me... thats like me saying you have to have a "Fabulous For Less" toolbar to be counted when visiting my site... ... some people know just enough to be dangerous... ...geez...
The Alexa ranking are based on the toolbar. From their "About Page" Quote:Alexa could not exist without the participation of the Alexa Toolbar community. Each member of the community, in addition to getting a useful tool, is giving back. Simply by using the toolbar each member contributes valuable information about the web, how it is used, what is important and what is not. This information is returned to the community as Related Links, Traffic Rankings and more. That's why some people will dismiss it as not presenting an accurate picture. But, to me, its like any other 'survey'. You're only going to speak with a certain amount of the population but you can make general assumptions based on the answers you get.
I asked this, because some cheerleaders are now spamming other boards poo-pooing the horrible WP Alexa reports claiming that contrary to the stats, WP is getting tons of traffic with this new "marketing blitz" but it just so happens there's no way to count it. I'm still confused on this. Or should the stats be used as comparison. In other words, since a certain percentage of visits are not showing on WP, the same percentage is not showing up on other sites as well, so the stats may not be numerically accurate but are still statistically accurate. Help me out on this.
Bolding mine, you pretty much got it Like I said, think of it as a survey. They are "asking" a percentage of the population what sites they browse (this information is collected through the toolbar). Even though the numbers returned won't reflect the population as a whole, some generalizations can be made from a statistical standpoint. The numbers are NOT worthless. If they are, then so is every marketing survey that's ever been done. Edited to add: OTOH, the argument could be made that when a survey is conducted, a number of people to be surveyed is calculated in order to properly represent the population as a whole. It could then be argued that Alexa isn't accurate because they have no control over how many people download their toolbar (and the others that collect their info). That being said, its still a decent gauge of overall 'health' of a site's ranking.
