Karen's response must have "inspired" some of the sellers. There were 280 stores this morning. :blinkie:
I don't quite think that's the reaction she was looking for.

Gotta love this response to Karen's post...
Quote:Amen to that! Nothing in life comes easy or free .... that is a reality that must be shouted out a hundred times for everyone to realize how lucky we are here to have you Karen. You would and will never find that openess on ebay. They have their Radio address and stuff like that, but never ever everyday one on one with customer service. Not unless you are making them the big bucks, and even then all you get is phone surveyed out the you know what, and they are never about the real issues at hand. We always get honest answers here, weather we like what we are told or not and for the most part we seems to have a lot of free speech here, MORE than most other sites, which is great becuase communication is the best part of working together to make this the small wonderful community that we have and will continue to grow with! Sometimes less is more! Ok, that was more than 2 cents from me, lol! Nice chat everyone! When are they going to get it?!?!? You can't compare Wagglepop's customer service with eBay's! Apples and Oranges! 12,000 users (supposedly) - vs - 7.4 million+ users! They have a lot of free speech at Wagglepop?!?! :blinkie:

Here's another post to that thread
Quote:xxxxxxxx 10 Apr 2007 14:20 Free speach, honest answers where has this popper been? :blinkie: There is no free speach on WP if you say something Ray does not like it's deleted. You get mostly double talk and not honest answers. I'm surprised the thread this was posted on is still there.
I can see where this is headed... "Karen" (Ray) is going to have to get "upper management" (Ray) to pay more money out of his pocket again this month because WP (the poppers) haven't been able to generate enough revenue to cover the expenses. Karen will come back to the poppers with the sad news that Upper Management says if something doesn't change soon, they will have to close the Wagglepop doors. The Poppers will immediately begin to beg Karen to let them pay more per month just so the site will stay for the long haul. Scoop...you and I are apparently thinking along the same lines! :blinkie:
Exactly I can see it happening now. I think this may be the only reason this thread is still there. |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
If they raise the fees, I think WP will plunge even faster than it is now.
There will be no new sellers as no one in their right mind is going to join a site that offers nothing close to what eBay does for the same price (they already charge 63% of what eBay does for a Basic store). Even if all the current sellers stayed (which I doubt will happen with a fee increase), the additional money wouldn't be enough to 'support' the site. I hope these sellers are backing up their work. I feel sick to my stomach....

Quote:Participation as a whole (not individually, as we have incredible individual seller and buyer support) needs to start reflecting and supporting the costs associated with operating the site, and then we can start talking about what we can do to add features and market things a bit more. Anybody want to take a stab at what there operating costs really are? I have done it many times and have proven there operating costs are far less then what they are taking in even now with less then 300 sellers. let the truth be told u1it4less - "it's all in the name.." |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
This will sound a bit deep...but I have to say it.
All commerce,casinos,con-artists, lotteries etc. are based on one human trait... "Hope for Gain." We spend our days in the hope to gain something.. A purchase that will satisfy our wants or needs. A winning slot machine/lottery ticket to make us happy and help our financial needs. We sell on the internet or work at our jobs for financial gain.. and satisfaction we can do a good job. The world is built around this "Hope". Sometimes we get so focused thinking we are gaining when we are really not. IE. That winning $100.00 lottery ticket cost you $300.00 in purchases of other lottery tickets to get it.. I am hoping the current WP members read this and weigh the actual costs of fees/time/inventory and other factors...and compare it to the sales. If as a seller you are really ahead Congratulatons!.....if not re-think your venue and methods.. Is it really worth it? Determine what your "hope for gain" is and timeline to achieve it. When the timeline is past and you have given the project all it requires. Time to move on.... I had 2000 items on Wp for 4 months ...actual sales 6....non-paying buyers 5.... If I had put a minimum wage value on my time....I would have been minus $1,950.. An easy "time to move on" choice... Back to your regular scheduled programming! |
I've thought that myself, Truth. The problem is not with the reality of the costs, but with the perception that Ray gives the sellers regarding cost. They perceive that the costs are high due to the fictitious engineering, legal and CS departments. They think Ray is sitting in some office building with employees working hard for little pay. WE know he is benefiting financially from this, unfortunately, some of these sellers are still clinging to the notion that this is some big business venture. I have to hand it to the guy, he's a helluva con artist - a damn good one if you think about it.
The lottery ticket scenario is a great analogy. I used to be a manager in my ex-husband's family business, a convenient store. The die-hard gamblers would think "the next ticket will be the one". Its that mentality that drove them to spend thousands for little gain. I think some WPers are in the same mindset - "Just 500 more inventory listings and I'll see more sales", "Just a few more months and things will improve", "Just rearrange my store and more people will visit". They really are hoping for something that in all reality will never materialize into any kind of gain. Sad.
