Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
I decided to check out the out the (cell phone/cell phone accessories) competition this morning.
I went over to WP and saw 590 items in their category (by contrast I have 1700). I clicked on the cell phone category and stared in amazement -588 of 590 items in the category are $2 CHARMS :blinkie: : CHARMS??? summary: I have nothing to worry about, eBay has nothing to worry about. How many other categories at WP are filled with items that are miscategorized just so it looks like the site isn't full of a bunch of empty categories? |

I clicked on the shipping supplies category and 588 of 590 items were envelopes containing dog sh.it. :blinkie:

Hey, Toolers! Ready for a good chuckle?
Check out Ray's completed auctions on his eBay store. Out of 844 items listed in the last month, only 31 sales, and get this: Half of the supposed "sales" were to "buyers" whose eBay ID's all had exactly 5 characters -- a letter followed by three astericks followed by a letter, e.g. "a***g". Ray's more than a fuzzy slipper boinktard, HE'S A VILLAGE. |

Designers:
This is the link about the new masking user ids: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200803030932242.html How Safeguarding Member IDs works Bidder User IDs are "masked," so that scammers can't tell who is bidding on a listing and therefore cannot target them with official-looking spoof email. The masked User ID's consist of two random characters from the member's User ID for example, a***b. This method of identifying a bidder (whose feedback score is also visible) gives legitimate members a sense of who is bidding, while protecting the bidders' identities. (Please note that sellers who are logged in can see all the actual User IDs for the bidders on their listings.) |

(Please note that sellers who are logged in can see all the actual User IDs for the bidders on their listings.) [/quote] WOW. Not being a scammer, I didn't even know such existed. It wouldn't occur to me to try to capture email addresses through ID's and I have a hard time trying to figure how it could be efficiently done anyway, since I, as well as my buyers' IDs have no relevance to their email addresses. Even if all Ray's buyers are legit, his sell through rate is less than 4%. And it cost him over $300 in listing fees alone to put up his mag cut-outs. Since nearly all of his items sold for $9.99 with one bid, his sales probably didn't even cover his listing fees. So, to recap: Here is a "businessman?" who can't even break even selling on eBay (the site he hates, yet can't seem to tear himself away from), YET, with a straight face and heavy hand passes out sage business advice like the eucharist to his fresh starry-eyed Pooper converts. Truly the Warren Buffet of the e-commerce world. (LOL) -- So how is it that we -- those of us who blew his Koolaid stand because we have "no business sense" and did not blindly embrace the grand opportunity at WP, are the ones making a living? I have one thing to say in Ray's behalf: He's a great example for his sellers on WP. He can't make money, and neither can they. Gotta love that business model. :cinqo1: |
