EDIT to the edit on my last post. I found this on PSU after I posted: Karen backing up my statement that mandatory account closing is not a feature of rscript - it is a feature of Ray Romeo's greed: Quote:The basic reason that in order to close a Store you must close the entire SSP account is a simple one, and it's for membership protection:
Just a point to ray's greed that should be known and exactly how I feel and how I believe most others who have left feel as well. $9.95 in today's off eBay environment is ridiculous for a store to sell on. I could deal with FVF and upgrade fees. I could deal with a free store as many other sites do. I could deal with free listings but charge for upgrades and FVF. Heck I could even deal with adsmart if everything above was free. Most of all I could deal with Ray saying in a email or PM that he doesn't have the money to advertise as long as the above was free as stated. There is one problem. Ray is greedy. Instead none of the above applied and to boot you loose you user ID. It's not the sellers that need to change it's the owner that needs to change. let the truth be told u1it4less - "it's all in the name.." X-POP NATION, A real seller's network |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Quote:The basic reason that in order to close a Store you must close the entire SSP account is a simple one, and it's for membership protection: Could one of you familiar with Rscrpt explain this to me? I still don't understand why closing a store means closing an entire account and why that is of advantage to a seller. So what if GTC listings relist at the regular listing price? When a seller no longer has a store, then that seller no longer has the privilege of benefitting from the single-fee store system. He/she just becomes a regular non-store seller. And couldn't a seller convert those listings prior to closing, so they simply end and don't relist automatically at the regular (non-store) rate if that's an issue? What if a seller simply wants to close a store and run individual auctions, or wants to close a store and simply buy? How is it benefitting to have to re-register under a different user ID and forfeit all the acquired feedback? Also, I've been on eBay over 8 years and have no clue what Karen means by "charge full price" for store owners and non-store owners. Store listings are not, and never were, charged the same as auction or FIXED price, non-store listings. Neither are upgrades. And how are listings, gallery and BIN features considered FREE, when a member pays monthly for the package? No extra charge cannot be equated with FREE. In some countries (Sweden, for example), this type of promotion is called false advertising, is against the law, and KaRay would be behind bars for making that claim. This explanation seems like a bunch of to me. What am I missing? Edited for clarity. |

I don't know how they have it set up over at WP, but wouldn't "store" format listings just end if you closed your store? How could they relist?
I mean, wouldn't all your store format listings cease to exist if you no longer had a store?
Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I mean, wouldn't all your store format listings cease to exist if you no longer had a store?
Good point, Rat. From what Truth and I have discovered, it appears the GTC listings remain after the store is closed, unless the store owner manually deletes them prior to closing. In a way, the proclamation by Karen supports this. Ray can still use these listings for SEO and to artificially inflate the listing counts. Plus, they still show up on search. It therefore behoves Ray to have this "lose ID and feedback" policy as a threat to deter sellers from closing stores in order for him to receive the store income as well as use the listings for SEO and listing counts. It would appear, then, that a smart seller wanting to close his/her store would revise all the GTC listings (and change all listings to GTC) to include the new store location, so any buyer who might bring up a GTC listing will be directed away from the soon-to-be closed WP store to the new location set-up, after which the store owner simply closes his WP store. Ray would then have to delete the listings himself to keep the GTC listings from continuing past store closure, otherwise the former WP store owner would be getting some free SEO to his new location at Ray's expense. |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in here on the issue of getting billed after closing/termination.
I was one of the sellers that also dodged the post-billing bullet. When I ended all of my listings and closed my store, I owed them $2 or something like that due to the date that I closed my store... then I got a new ID so I could buy and post on the forums. I didn't get the boot until about a month later and that was under the new ID. I never saw any of my items still listed after I closed but that might be because I ended each one manually as they expired (at least I think I did... it's been a while)... Also... you must remember that I was one of the first sellers to close my store back in the very beginning of September when the cheerleading was at it's highest point. When I left, it was because of the duality of Karen's face... depending on who she was talking to, of course. And the fact that I wanted to have my questions answered, which they never were... I tried to ask others about their experiences but because none of the *sh*t* with massive store closings and complaints had even started yet, no one thought that anything was wrong with the censorship (that was in it's infancy stage) and the lack of business discussions (all kissies, huggies and prayers)... I knew that it was a business-like site and I got angrier and angrier each day that I was selling there. And of course there was the time that the site went down for hours and when it came back up they said that it was "scheduled" maintenance to replace the power something-or-other... Scheduled?? They didn't tell us that the site would be down... isn't that whst most sites do? WARN THEIR USERS BEFOREHAND?? Of course they do!! They lied about that too!! Oh and when the site came back up... my store was there but my listings were gone!!! I almost had a nervous breakdown that night...300 listings **poof** into thin air!! Well, they came back after they replicated but geez... I couldn't take anymore... I closed right after that. The boards were full of concerns and Ka/Ray just blew everyone off... I swore it was shades of WP1... Anyhoo... that's my story and I'm sticking to it... |
