Quote:More dynamic growth overnite: 365 stores this morning. Before I went to bed last night the count was 360. KaRay did some damage control in the meantime by resurrecting a few shell stores. Before doing so though, he forgot to award a couple of them the founding member icon since they supposedly have been around since August. Great WF Truth and an eloquent followup A!

Quote:For example, a Store seller with 1000 active listings at $9.99 with a $14.99 BIN and Thumbnail Gallery Image weekly (and including the monthly Store subscription) with main site exposure would have the following insertion fees charged (and it is not a typographical error): They forgot to add this into their comparison... Reach per million users eBay Wagglepop 24,650 3.5 Approximate Sell Thru Rate* eBay Wagglepop 50% 1% (*based on Medved.net averages and previous WP Reports) If you're going to compare sites, you need to compare everything.
Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Quote:The $39.99 monthly I pay for Amazon's ProMerchant subscription (unlimited Marketplace listings) is a much better value than the $9.95 Poppers pay for unlimited listings with SmartSell Pro because Amazon's traffic and number of buyers are fairly close to eBay's levels (and for media items it is better than eBay). EDIT: ...and with Amazon (unlike WP) there is no need to spend time doing marketing the site should have done to bring in buyers--they are already there waiting to buy. Can you sell clothing through Amazon Marketplace?

Can you sell clothing through Amazon Marketplace? [/quote] There is an apparel category on Amazon. I'm not sure whether the sellers in that category sell through the ProMerchants program or SellersCentral though. |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Quote:Reach per million users I'm no math whiz, but according to my calculations, these figures mean that WP's reach is .014% of eBay's, with a sell-thru rate 2% of eBay's. Theoretically, then, the eBay seller with 1000 active items would therefore need to have 50,000 active items on WP to have similar number of sales. In other words, a seller has as good a chance of listing 2 items on eBay and having one sold as listing 100 items on WP and getting one sale. If each listing is individual, taking about 1 hour to list (e.g. I deal in designer clothes, so my time includes inspecting item, ironing, putting on dress mannequin and pinning, setting up background and lighting, taking pictures, doing layout, measuring, description, uploading to web hosting and cataloguing item number in data base), it would take me about 100 hours to list 100 items on WP. Deducting subscription fee, but not including final value fee, PayPal and acquisition costs (according to Ray's comparison), I would have a gross of $10.05 on a $20 item on WP. This means I'm making about 10 cents an hour. If I had a store on eBay with just two items listed in active and none in store, and one active item sold for the same amount as on WP, what would be my net? $3.70 counting store fees in, but not counting PayPal, etc. It has taken me two hours to list those two items, so I'm only making about $1.85/hr but that's 18+ times what I would make on WP. Of course, It would be ridiculous for any eBay seller to have a store with only 2 items listed as active and none in store. And including acquisition, PayPal and the rest, I woud be in the hole in both scenarios, just WAY in the hole on WP. But this scenario is not unlike many WP sellers who have around 100 listings in their stores. Pointing out the stupidity of Ray's comparisons between WP and eBay on the WP forums is one of the reasons I got canned. So, since you won't see it on the WP forums, lurkers, take a good look at these figures and WAKE UP, POPPERS! Edited to put both eBay items in "active" to fit Ray's stupid scenario. |

Thanks. I'll do some research on it. Quote:There is an apparel category on Amazon. I'm not sure whether the sellers in that category sell through the ProMerchants program or SellersCentral though.

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
If anyone feels I deserve to be tarred & feather for what I'm about to confess then put the pot on and start plucking that bird. :turkey2:
Most of you are not aware but I sell movies as well as books. My guest bedroom can only be used as such if company doesn't mind sleeping on top of rows of metal racking filled with movies. I never really got many of them listed on WP (thank goodness). Two days ago I started researching completed DVD listings on eBay, something Poppers can only dream of doing on their site. Well knock me over with one of those feathers you've plucked! I discovered I had 14 titles in my inventory that are demanding an excellent price. With stock of more than one for of some of the titles I decided to put them aside and wait for a 10 cent listing day to throw them on eBay. Then wouldn't you know it, eBay held one yesterday for .ca only. It was divine intervention! I immediately advised my technical department (read hubby) that a bunch of listings had to be created. That order was delivered with the urgency of "I need them yesterday". Yikes, but eBay changed their listing format since I had left! The html had to be tweaked which took time but I managed to finish listing all the ones I had picked by 2:30 this morning EST. My callous furballs had no sympathy for my late bedtime and used every trick in their arsenal to get me up this morning. Dragging my cafeine deficient body downstairs, I booted up to find 3 movies had already sold for a total of $155.00 and watchers have tagged some of the others. I shared our overnight success with tech. dept. who had the audacity to complain about "all the work gone so quickly". Men!! So I admit to lowering my standards, sneaking back onto eBay for a one shot run. I'd love to put the bed back in that damn room so whatever it takes... Aren't I shameless? When will the T&F be ready?
