Patti I am glad you are going to try and make it down here for our first ever X-Poppers Live gathering. I want 1 2, Your site is looking great and I just registered there. On a side note, my Zen site is starting to surpass my eBay store in sales. I am just short of gold powerseller status on eBay in that particular store. Over the past week my Zen site did more then double the sales and page views then I did on eBay and those stats are still climbing. I noticed today that my page views surpased what I normally do in a entire day on eBay by 9AM EST on my Zen site. For those of you who have openned a zen cart site recently, give it a month or 2 and you will be pleasently surprised. The best part is I am only about halfway done with loading product. RiverRat, Thanks again for all your help as well as regic and evryone else. We couldn't have done it without your help!!! DB and anyone else considering a website, It doesn't matter how much you know about computers, seek the help and start your own site. Ecrater is a good place to practice but the comparison between eCrater and your own site that has been tossed around in many different threads is poor at best. I am not knocking eCrater, I sell there and will continue to sell there. The formula to success online is within this thread, the problem is this thread is way to long and that formula is mixed in amoung all the pages. In short, use eBay as a marketting channel, sell your media items on Amazon or biblio, etsy for handmade items, eCrater for added exposure, START YOUR OWN WEBSITE & drive traffic to yourself via all avenue's. I can't stress this enough!! The alternative to eBay will never be another auction site. The alternative will and always has been yourself. let the truth be told u1it4less - "it's all in the name.."
How much would you say you need to start up a decent site? I am on such a tight budget right now its rediculas! My other question is; Is the shopping cart the way you set up your whole site? I am telling you, I am clueless when it comes to all of this but I am interested in doing it someday as long as I can get it to look nice and professional. |
You really could start out fairly cheap. First you need your domain name - less than $10.00/yr most places. Then hosting - TT has hosting really cheap (see the side banner, only $3.79/mo). Also an SSL certificate (GoDaddy has them for $20/yr - TT may offer them too). You can find free templates out there if you look or you can use the stock one that will come with your shopping cart. Entering product is really easy, a lot like eCrater. You create categories and then products under them. Hope that helps a little!
