Thanks for the hugs everyone... believe me they are needed tonight. FH and TPG... finally some good news!!! Congratulations!!! Much love to you and your family!!! DB... no new puppies for us. Our Dusty was irreplaceable. He was such a good dog. A real sweetheart. We still have 3 cats and our hamster and that's plenty of pets...
Platzki I can't really speak for DB but I don't think she meant for you to do it as a replacement and I know I didn't mean that. When we are so attacted to our pets they are all irreplaceable whether it's a big dopey dog or a big baby or a real smart dog or cat for that matter. My dog was my baby she was attached to me and she was a super smart dog and so gentle. The dog I have now is more attached to my hubby she is gentle and smart but she likes to play selectivly dumb sometimes if you know what I mean. If something were to happen to her she would be irreplaceable too. Now when I say I went and rescued the cat I didn't do it the next day. It was a few weeks later when I was still really having trouble coping some one suggested I do that not to replace the pet I lost but they said it would help me deal with that sense of helplessness that I was feeling. You know to go out and save another. For me it helped. I do know what you mean you can never replace the one you lost. Again I'm so sorry you lost your Dusty
I know that all the thoughts and suggestions are meant with only the best of intentions. Everyone has their own way of dealing with heartache. Right now, I just can't imagine ever getting another dog. Maybe it's because its too soon... don't forget, we also put down one of our cats just last week so it's been very stressful. Dusty was a member of the family. We got him when our son was 5 and our daughter was 18 months. They don't ever remember a time when he wasn't there so it's been tough tonight. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am just so exhausted so I think I'm going to go to bed. Thanks everyone for the hugs, love and prayers. I can feel them surrounding me. I forgot to welcome Carlitos earlier... |

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am just so exhausted so I think I'm going to go to bed.
This has been the tough part for us also - our younger two don't remember not having our Golden, Nala. Our youngest (almost 11) and oldest (17) seem to be doing just fine. They both expressed sadness but seemed to really understand it was an act of love and the best thing to do. Our middle son (almost 13) is still really, really upset. Its only been 3 weeks but he just seems so angry. He told me yesterday that he never wants another dog ever again. He even insisted he doesn't want the cats anymore. I'm not really sure how to deal with it except to let him vent and give him time. I suppose everyone goes through the grieving process different. Maybe for some getting a new puppy or kitten would help ease the pain. In fact, for me I think it would help to throw myself into caring for a new puppy. For Devin's sake though, I know I need to let him go through this in his own time. I really do feel for you, sweetie. Get some rest - sending good thoughts out for you, Bill and the kids
