Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

I know there must be an easy way to do this and I am just overlooking the obvious but . . .

Say I have a spreadsheet with 1000 rows and 20 columns.
I have an entry in the cell at the first row, 2d column. I want to copy that data to every cell in the 2d column. How do I do that?

Select the cells from 1-1000, then edit>fill>down
