I realize nothing is secret on the Internet. I would just prefer my identity not be stolen.

I meant... The story on CNN showed a guy in a chatroom discussing the sale of cc numbers and personal info taken from eBay and PayPal. He was even sent an instant message, via the chatroom, during the time he was being interviewed.

I was watching that story on CNN today. They also had a guy explaining about how there are Internet chatrooms that sell cc numbers and such. EVERY example used for gaining stolen info and cc numbers was from eBay and PayPal!!! So that's what happens with all those Phishing e-mails. Those do not worry me too much, I have html graphics turned off so they do not know if I open them and (so far) none has been so clever that I clicked anything.
What really concerns me, and I heard it here somewhere, is the possibility that an eBay or paypal employee would steal data and sell it.

FBI Recovers Stolen VA Laptop with data of 26.5 million
Update:
Quote:The government has recovered the stolen laptop computer and hard drive with sensitive data on up to 26.5 million veterans and military personnel. The FBI said Thursday there is no evidence that anyone accessed Social Security numbers and other data on the equipment. Quote:"The worst-case scenario may have been averted this time, but an even greater tragedy would be if this type incident was allowed to happen again because of complacency in the workplace," said Joe Davis, a spokesperson for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "Those who are entrusted with our nation's secrets and the personal information of its citizens must be held accountable when they fail to do their jobs."... full article: http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/Duvb...ptop.xhtml
