Re: Update on eBay Express
I have been trying to get my mind around how the EE search works - or more particularly how it would work against me -- I'm still not quite qualified, not that I am missing anything. Anyway this post from the EE board hits it squarely, so I'll put it here so you dont have to walk too much: knappschiles Wrote: The rich get richer. "level playing field" ???

eBay SUX Plain and simple... It sux so bad now I can hear the sucking sound coming from San Jose's HQ and I live on the east coast. It reminds me of the last moments of the Titanic. The stern is on the rise. Some are still trying desperately to get to the rails and hold on... While others have already jumped ship or slid down into the freezing waters. The ship is just about ready for that final decent into the abyss. I and many of my buds are at many from the comfort of our life boats far far away from the suck zone that is about ready to swallow up any survivors still too close to the ship. I prey many of my fellow passengers jumped ship a long time ago. It's really sad to watch. :'(

It reminds me of the last moments of the Titanic. ..... The ship is just about ready for that final decent into the abyss. .....[/quote] You may be right. I could make it without Ebay, but I would really prefer not to have to. Let me tell a story that is WAY off topic, but perhaps can show how this mess could right itself and the ship be repaired. A lot of you probably know that for the last ten years Nepal has had serious problems. Civil war has cost the country an estimated 13,000 lives and the rebels control about 3/4 of the land area. A little over a year ago the King suspended the legislature, claiming they were not effectively dealing with the problem (they weren't). The King could not resolve the crisis either and things got worse. The 7 largest political parties joined together to restore democracy. About six months ago they reached an agreement with the rebels, who agreed to become a mainstream political party if the legislature was restored and the King's power curbed. Thus began a series of strikes in the major cities. All business stopped, traffic stopped, everything. The strikes had broad support from the people, although the people did not really trust any of the three factions. The strikes increased, there was some fighting and property damage, mostly to carefully selected targets. There was no wholesale violence that I have heard of, that is not the Nepali way. From the little I know of Sumo Wrestling, it is a drama of two huge forces locked together, making subtle changes of position for small advantage until the small advantages cascade and one athlete is thrown. This is what happened in Nepal. The King, realizing he had lost, recalled the legislature, the legislature called for the re-writing of the constitution to prevent the King from seizing power, the rebels are moving into the mainstream and have stopped fighting. From what I hear the war is really truly over. So what does this have to do with Ebay (beyond being a story I wanted to tell)? Ebay is in crisis. A crisis cannot continue forever. One of two things can happen - the ship could sink, or more likely shrink, or the issues can be addressed, seriously and thoroughly. Ebay live, if enough people attend and voice their anger, could be the place where that happens. The people who run Ebay must be very bright to have gotten to where they are. They are wrong about some things, and people do not like to admit to being wrong. But people, when confronted with disaster, can accept that they are wrong and change. If the King of Nepal can do it, surely it is possible that Meg can.

Re: Update on eBay Express
Good read and I see what your saying.
I would only disagree with one part. I don't believe the people who run eBay are very bright. I believe it was a case of being in the right place at the right time that has gotten them to where they are / were. I also believe the Nazi like tactics and restraint of free trade with anti competitive policies is a huge turn off factor for many sellers not to mention their obsession of always having to tinker with what was already a good thing. I think ebay should have STOPPED playing with the look and feel and functionality of the site about three years ago and I think they should have NEVER got into the payment business. In a nut shell other than what I just mentioned above.I believe when ebay started using language like "protection" "unsafe" "fraud" "scam" and any of the other terms used to instill fear in the buyers (all to just try to keep buyers on the site to buy) they screwed up. One of their other biggest mistakes and this goes for the same for PayPal. Is lax registration and allowing multiple sellers / user accounts. Just imagine how "SAFE" ebay and PP would be if they verified it's sellers before they allowed them to sell. The general public would feel more confident buying knowing that ebay was diligent in insuring that Betty Bops Bargain Basement was in fact Betty Bop. For the sake of the ebay full timers still holding on I guess I would say I hope they can do something. But from a website operators point of view all the problems plaguing ebay is a god send to us.

Re: Update on eBay Express
"Update On eBay Express Mess" would be a more suitable title for this thread.
