eBay has already reached that point.
No, that would be a step up.
HA HA HA! On a side note... Rumor has it that eBay LIVE sucks. Other than the usual blowing of smoke, there is also NO ORGANIZATION. The party is a cluster ****. |

I was going to fly in and liven things up a bit.
But my tights got lost at the cleaners and there was no way I was just going to swoop down on the event wearing nothing but my speedos and a red cape.

Does anyone know if the booing of Bill Cobb has been mentioned in any articles?

eBay moves beyond auctions into communications, advertising, financial services
A related article:
Quote:While eBay Inc. is showing signs of a middle-age crisis, with slowing growth and a sliding stock price, company executives seemed almost giddy as they outlined plans to use their recent acquisitions to move beyond auctions -- into communications, advertising and financial services. Quote:Many merchants said they either weren't familiar with Skype or considered it too early to add the SkypeMe feature to their listings. full article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...02364.html |

Re: eBay attempts to evolve, but do buyers and sellers like the new direction?
Maybe eBay can recoup the $2.6 billion it spent last fall to acquire Skype...
By selling ebay for $2.6 billion. Oh wait... thats too much money for the now impotend tired old girl.

A related article: Skip McGrath, who lives near Seattle and has written two books on eBay, said he has no intention of using Skype for his auctions. "Do I really want bidders instant-messaging me all day long? Who's got time for that?"...
That's very interesting. I spoke with Skip some years back. We had worked out an arrangement where I was selling his How To manual on my website along with my own manual/CD on importing. He's a very nice guy and wrote a good book, although it's probably obsolete now. I think he's been walking a tightrope in recent years because his sales depend on keeping the dream alive, yet I know he's smart enough to see the writing on the wall. He has been dropping some negative hints here and there about some of ebay's practices, but he's usually pretty subtle about it. I suspect his sales aren't nearly what they used to be. |

He's also one of the featured speakers at Alibaba Live! this week. http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...l#msg16104 Quote:Skip McGrath, who lives near Seattle and has written two books on eBay, said he has no intention of using Skype for his auctions. I thought Bill Slob said both buyers and sellers were peeing their pants in delight at the prospect of Spyking each other. |

Re: eBay attempts to evolve, but do buyers and sellers like the new direction?
Skip, a featured speaker at Alibaba Live? Wow! That's veeeerrry interesting. Hmmm, I would really love to see a transcript of that. I receive regular updates from Alibaba about buyers looking for products. I haven't taken the plunge yet because I've been so damn busy.
Actually, I'm in Thailand now, filling another container and things are looking up. Although, one of my manufacturers just got ripped off by his thai gf (they were together for ten years!) and she left him penniless, forging his name to all kinds of stuff. I saw him yesterday and he seems a bit suicidal. He's in his 60's and has lost everything he's worked for. I have to say, I kinda saw it coming. There's no fool like an old fool. |
