eBay Bans Merchant Payment Gateway Provider Card Service International
Auctionbytes article today on the Google Checkout ban.  Surprisingly (said sarcastically), Auctionbytes didn't notice the banning of payment gateway provider  CardServiceInt'l .  Laughing7

Quote:eBay and Google are locked in a battle over Google's new payment service, with both companies further clarifying their positions Thursday on why the service should, or should not, be banned from the eBay marketplace. And it appears the majority of people posting about the issue are skeptical over eBay's motivation in banning Google Checkout, believing it's a competitive issue, not a trust & safety issue as eBay has stated. The battle may be a precursor to a future war as eBay readies plans to encroach on Google's advertising turf.
Quote:As for eBay changing the name of the Safe Payments Policy, introduced in October 2005, to "Accepted Payments Policy" this week, Durzy said it was done because it was never eBay's intention to imply that any of the services not permitted on eBay were inherently unsafe in any environment. There are plenty of services that are safe in other contexts but that are not appropriate for the eBay marketplace, Durzy said, such as Western Union wire transfers.

Translation: Google can spend a lot more on its lawyers than eBay can.  Stormpay is too small to do anything about being labeled unsafe by eBay, but Google isn't and would have had eBay in court seconds after being labeled unsafe.

What about this whole cardserviceintl thing?

I was just at an affiliate site
and it says:

Do you sell on eBay?

Our merchant account integrates easily with your eBay auction!

Wonder if Card knows ebay is claiming they are "unsafe"?

I don't know, but since they're 100% owned by First Data, which is the largest credit card processor, I doubt that they'll be very happy...especially since it appears to be an anti-competitive move by eBay to strengthen the eBay/PayPal owned Verisign gateway by placing doubt in the minds of millions of ebay sellers about the reputation of one of Verisign's largest competitors

Wouldn't that be interesting if both Google and Card Service International decide to sue eBay for antitrust?

You know BBH I was think about adding a blurb about anti-competitive moves in my last
post and I just decided you guys have heard me rant and rave about this anti-competitive stuff for a long time.

But the anti-competitive stuff I keep seeing them do needs to be addressed not by us little guys but by the FEDS.

It's high time some wombat poo poo gets off his ass in
Washington DC and steps up to the plate
and STOP all these anti-competitive anti-trust violations.

Hey  Alberto R. Gonzales what do we have to do to get your attention?

Go plant explosives in ebay or send in suicide sellers or what?

(Just kidding that would be a waste of good C4)

The US Attorney General and the FTC do have an obligation to the people
(us tax payers) to do something about this.

THEY NEED TO. I have all I can take.
I know I don't list there much anymore but this just isn't right.
Who the fuck does Meg and her henchmen think they are?

They are acting like fucking little dictators of their own little third world country.

Maybe we should send in a Special Forces Team and take them out.  LOL

I could see Google doing that if the ban continues.  Google already tried (unsuccessfully) earlier this year to have the government investigate Microsoft because Google claimed Internet Explorer 7's default search (it defaults to using MSN Search when first installed) was an anti-trust violation.  If Google thought the IE7 browser search was anti-competitive, I'm sure it's thinking the same thing about eBay's ban of Google Checkout.

Re: eBay rewrites its Safe Payment Policy and officially Bans Google Checkout
Google doesn't have a case if the ban only extends to the eBay website.  Amazon bans its sellers from using any outside payment service or merchant account.

Rick's Cabaret had a strong anti-trust case because PayPal was the preferred payment method for online adult video purchases when PayPal changed its rules and banned the use of PayPal for porn purchases at off-eBay websites but  continued to allow its use for them on eBay.  The Google Checkout ban is different than the Rick's case.
