EBay and PayPal claim ban of Google Checkout wasn't due to paranoia
Quote:When online auction giant eBay Inc. barred Google Checkout from its marketplace, the move led to widespread industry speculation that eBay, which owns rival online payment processor PayPal, was discriminating against the weeks-old Google Inc. payment product. But a PayPal executive tells Digital Transactions News eBays action had nothing to do with Checkouts competitive position with respect to PayPal. Thats been overplayed, says Todd Pearson, who as senior director for merchant services oversees sales of PayPal acceptance to online retailers. I would expect that as Google proves their track record [in online payment processing], theyll be treated like any other payment method [on eBay].... full article: http://www.digitaltransactions.net/newss...ewsid=1058 |

Re: EBay and PayPal claim ban of Google Checkout wasn't due to paranoia
I suspect deals were made ahead of time.
I suspect these deals had to do with LARGE sums of money eBay pays to Google for Ad words and the fact that at a drop of a hat eBay could simply decide to do Ad words with another company's search engine instead of Google's. I suspect eBay made it quit clear who's bread was being buttered with millions in ad revenue and as a result... I suspect that is why TOOLS were NOT developed by GP to make it easy for ebay sellers to point their customers to GP to pay for their winnings way before the roll out a couple of months ago. In essence ebay played hard ball and Google rolled over leaving probably hundreds of thousands of sellers disappointed, who were ready to jump off PP's ship. Right back to anti trust again guys.. Dividing up customers in back room deals to stifle true competition between the two payment services.
