How low would you go?
How low would you go?
What is the feedback % at which you would click "next" and bypass an Amazon seller? Prompted by a note I received from a buyer today who gave me a 4. I inquired what I could have done better and she wrote a really nice and long reply. She said she almost never gives a 5 - to her that means something exceptional, outstanding, above and beyond what was promised or expected. To her, a 4 means I did every right. And she said she'd have no problems buying from a seller with a 4.0 rating. I'd never freakin' buy from a seller with a 4.0 rating. (Well, maybe if they were a noobie, without a lot of feedback and the lower marks were clearly from nutcases.) So consider the poll question to be referring to sellers with more than 100 ratings. |

Re: How low would you go?
I voted 4.5, but at anything under 4.8 I'd check feedback to see just what the problem was.

Re: How low would you go?
Tough one because there is so much to consider... what I am buying, when I want it, what condition I would like the item to be in, etc.
If I'm buying a used book I want to read when I get around to it, I don't worry much about the feedback . If I don't receive the item, I know Amazon will make the seller refund. If I'm buying a used book that I hope to pass on, I read the feedback responses. More often then not, the comments are positive but the nits give the sellers 3's and 4's. |

Re: How low would you go?
I voted 4.5, but I usually look at the feedback percentage and the comments too.
Quote:To her, a 4 means I did every right. And she said she'd have no problems buying from a seller with a 4.0 rating. Buyers not understanding the feedback system is a universal problem on all venues. (especially on Overstock where I'm not sure I even understand the dozens of different ratings next to my IDs ) |

4 vote here...
Why? It's my belief that Amazon sellers get far fewer perfect ratings per transaction. IE - The customers tend to only leave feedback if there's problems. |

Re: How low would you go?
This buyer's response is exactly what's wrong with tiered feedback systems. I do some freelance work through an online freelance place that uses that type of system. I'll get very stern clients who don't like to give out too much praise--and to them, a 3.8 or 4 out of 5 is a glowing, solid review. They'd leave a 1 if they were dissatisfied. Same goes with Amazon and Overstock.
A lot of people think that no one ever gives a 5--that giving a 5 would be if the seller personally drove the product to the house, made them dinner, and put the items away for them. Knowing that peoples' concepts of what's positive and negative are very different--I usually just read the comments if I'm worried. If the person has a lot of transactions, I usually buy anyway. I've never been ripped off by anyone on Amazon, not even people with 0 feedback or 3s.
