Re: Sneaky's guide to Sells and Sale
I neither want a honus on me or to share anyone's wears.... Yeech!
Its, it's and its' are a pet peeve of mine. Most people these days use "its" for everything. U NO? Some of this is folks whose native language is not English --- they can be excused. But most of this garbage comes from young people - either due to the "let them all pass" attitude of the school system or overuse of spell-checkers in school. Regardless it is annoying.

Quote:I neither want a honus on me or to share anyone's wears.... Yeech! Well apparently, the honus is on us to be tolerant. Quote:But most of this garbage comes from young people - either due to the "let them all pass" attitude of the school system or overuse of spell-checkers in school. Regardless it is annoying. I beg to differ, lol. I see more bad spelling, bad grammar and just generally pathetic writing skills on the "boards" than I have ever seen in my real life!! And most of these people are not exactly 18!! A pox on those who refuse to get with the program!! (JK ) |

Re: Sneaky's guide to Sells and Sale
It doesn't bother me on the boards. We are often so intent on what we want to say that we don't pay attention to correct spelling and grammar. And some people just aren't very good at typing (me). I can't very well pick on people for their errors when I make so many myself.
But it does bother me in professional communications and ecommerce websites. |

Re: Sneaky's guide to Sells and Sale
I can understand grappling with longer words, complex words, or "tech speak" words--but the sales / sells thing is right up there with "would of" "could of" etc.
It's the perfect illustration of social laziness, lack of awareness, and a hint at how our society no longer values correct speech or writing. Many people do things quickly, sloppily, and without any real contemplation--including board posting, letter writing, site copy writing, and countless other things. Normally I agree with Mary--but this time, I must humbly disagree (about the boards part). It is "just a board" in the grand scheme of things, but these people are likely sloppy and lazy about things that are "just grammar" or being "bad at spelling" without making any attempt to fix it. That's the problem. People get lazy and stuck in a groove. They either didn't pay attention in school, didn't think it mattered, or for whatever reason, don't think it's important to care about language now.
