It's official. SOW is a new acronym, coined by landosmiles.
We can also use the SOW sow. Imagine all of the conversational possibilities. p.s. how long as meg been mentioning SOW???

Quote:This is what it seems eBay is attempting to morph its search functions into, IMHO. You may be on to something, Abbey. The biggest problem that I see, if this is Ebay's intent, is that those shoppers are not Ebay's customers. They seem to forget that. Ebay's true customers are the sellers who must function as Ebay wants them to for this to work. Sure, they can manipulate search and take some control that way. But how will they now control WHAT each sellers lists and WHEN and HOW these items will be listed? It would seem that they would need to be able to control those things in order to give shoppers the Tailored experience. On second thought, I guess that probably won't be a problem for Ebay after all. They have the uncanny ability to manipulate sellers just as they manipulate the search. > |

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
Good point Cranky (and Abby) and there is no doubt this is eBay's intent.
I would add all the moves over the last few years were designed to reach this "magical" shopping mission goal. But as Cranky has stated as a question. I will pose it as a "mission" that eBay MUST accomplish in order the meet thier goal. They MUST control WHAT each seller lists and WHEN and HOW these items will be listed out here . Problem is for eBay THAT IS NOT going to happen because they went about implementation the wrong way. Instead of a partnership type approach and letting us all know about these "plans" feeBay takes the route more of a tyrannical boss forced micro mange approach. I just don't see it happening and when you look at the active users and SEE that more shoppers are leaving eBay than coming... then one must conclude they are far far away from achieving such a goal. And thier arrogance shines through with terms like SOW. How the hell does Meg think she can get sellers to cooperate with her when all she / they do day in and day out is treat people all like they are her little drop shippers / low level employees and children? If I was a betting man I wouldn't put my bets on this BS scheme working out for sleezeBay. Market analysts have been trying since the dawn of time to figure out what people want and as we move forward they now have "tools" they feel will finally be the golden bullet to increase that SOW's size. Never will happen IMO because they have forgot the basic fundamentals of how to treat customers. Just look around you people. Do you SEE anything eBay is doing right anywhere around the world? I don't and again thier arrogance and reliance on trendy numbers and attempting to "force" some sort of shopping mission program on the general public at large because some computer told them too ..........................is hog wash. Does eBay have an easy navigable site? NO Does eBay have an easy SYI? NO Does eBay have an easy and "secure" sign up process. NO Does eBay have a stable platform in which to list wares on? NO Does eBay provide CS to it's customers, the sellers? NO Is eBay making headway in other countries. NO Does eBay have a huge problem with scams and fraud on the site? YES Does eBay have daily weekly monthly and yearly glitches that have NEVER been fixed? YES Does eBay have a serious problem with bid shill rings and knock off items? Yes Does eBay hide all the above and more ALL THE TIME? YES. Has anyone KNOWN one product or service that eBay has bought stolen or implemented in the last three or four years that they can truly say is good? I don't think so. Those are just a few problems now anyone please add more (either pro or con) and tell me how this company can pull this off NOW. I just don't see it happening and I for one will NOT be a part of Meg's twisted "rule the world" BS SOW experiments any longer and I KNOW I'm not alone.

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
Well put, Abbey.
As a shopper, I shop one of two ways: I know EXACTLY what I want / need and search for it on eBay, a website, whatever. I use precise search terms, or I bore into a precise category. When I find what I want, I get it and leave. If I have more time, I will find what I want, get it, and maybe look at a few other things in the "aisle," then leave. I am in the mood to BROWSE, but always within a specific theme. I don't just say, "I want to buy something--maybe eBay Express will show me completely random categories so I can pick one off the wall." I might say, I'd like to see what Bob's Hobby Shop has in the "model" department. I would then look at all of the model kits (ships, cars, sci fi, etc.), glue, paint, etc. But all items are related--and centered at one STORE, which I know and trust. If I shop that way, there's bound to be others that do, too. The only site whose "suggestions" or "aided searches" have actually been useful or enjoyable is Amazon. Their recommendation engine is very good (at least for my types of products).

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
Hey,
How about we take up a collection of used wallets, and send them to Meg, with a note inside saying Dear Meg: It has come to our attention that you were in the market for a share of wallets. We find ourselves no longer in need of ours thanks to your efforts to bring the magic back to Ebay. As it turns out all of our money is being held captive at an undisclosed offshore China bank. Thank You, and have a nice day The Brokeback Sellers |

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
I'm still turning that phrase over and over again in my head.
"share of wallet." Is this another trendy "dot com" phrase like "vaporware," "empowerment" or something else from the BS generator? Something from a dot com's mission statement, a la 1999?

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
Quote:"share of wallet." Sounds assinine, doesn't it? Probably the product of one of those baby MBAs with no clue. It's amazing that they actually pay people to come up with this crap. |

Re: WTF is TSE (Tailored Shopping Experience)?
Ever seen the BS generator? It spews "dot comisms" at the push of a button. LOL.
"share of wallet" is exactly that type of thing. Some MBA probably coined it, as you said, and struts around with a half-cocked head and a fist full of stock options. At least there's no doubt in my mind that Meg and company are seeking my wallet, I guess. At least "share of wallet" throws all that community togetherness stuff officially in the trash (where it's been for years).
