Advertising on YouTube

The future for YouTube under Google's roof will be interesting. Advertisers are not going to want to be associated with Islamic Jihadist videos or more clips of someone copying stunts from the latest "Jackass" movie. But the size of the audiences going through YouTube is undeniable. The problem is that YouTube's audience is of a "less of more" kind of audience, to borrow from Chris Anderson, author of The Long Tail. This brings me to my point about actually planning with such an entity as YouTube.

The problem with considering YouTube for advertising is that, in spite of its huge audience, it is really just an aggregate of niches, not unlike a solid ad network. Very few clips on YouTube attract an audience great enough to be, on its own, an attraction to advertisers...
