We wanted to let you know that BBC Watchdog is planning to run a feature on eBay this evening on BBC1 at 7pm. We were approached by the BBC last week and have worked with them to address the concerns theyve raised.

The programme focuses on counterfeits and also raises issues around feedback.

As you know, we take the issue of counterfeits incredibly seriously: they are a global problem and eBay is one part of the issue. Selling fake items is illegal and eBay is committed to preventing the sale of fake items on the site. Over half of eBays workforce is deployed in helping to keep the site a safe place to buy and sell.

We have given BBC Watchdog full details of our Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Programme, which assists brands in reporting fake items to eBay. The VeRO programme includes over 17,000 brand owners such as Timberland, Adidas, Christian Dior, Chloe and Prada.

As a consequence, we remove millions of listings each year preventing counterfeit sales as well as taking action against fraudulent sellers by cancelling infringing listings, and restricting/suspending accounts.

Additionally, we work very closely with industry experts and law enforcement. eBay trained over 1000 Law Enforcement Officials in 2005 and is on track to have trained over 2000 in 2006. eBay also trained nearly 250 Trading Standards departments in 2005 on how to use the eBay site to assist in their investigations.
