Search Engine Propagation
It's been four years since I've had to deal with a brand new site--so I can't even remember how long it takes for organic searches to start working. I've been submitting my new site (the plasticpumpkin.com site) to all kinds of search engines, and I've used things like AddMe and ineedhits, etc.
I don't remember how long it takes for search engines to spread, index, and begin to serve your domain? The only search engine that seems to be sending people to the new site is Google. Nothing else shows up. I've been submitting the site heavily since late September.

Re: Search Engine Propagation
Google is a bit slower... sometimes much slower (2-3 months). They've indexed your home page and that's it:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:plasticpumpkin.com&num=100&hl=en&lr=&filter=0 MSN is usually shortly behind Yahoo for indexing speed, but they've still only indexed your home page: http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=sit...umpkin.com&mkt=en-US&form=QBRE&go.x=12&go.y=15 ask can take eons... our site took almost 6 months to be indexed. Be patient when editing for SEO... what you do now won't affect your SERP's for months, and that's pretty much true for all the search engines. I try to visit this forum a couple of times each month to check for new directories to add to. |

Re: Search Engine Propagation
Thentavius, ask people to start bookmarking your site on the soc. bkmrkg sites. I just bookmarked it on Del.icio.us . If you get enough bookmarks, you could make the "hotlist" and that would probably bring you quite a bit of traffic!
Really. everyone here who has a site that's actually operating (not me, : ), should do the same, IMO. Edited to add: I just bookmarked yours Fg, and all of yours too, Amy! |

Are they link add-a-link pages?

Re: Search Engine Propagation
They are sites where you can link to other people and their links, as well as keep your own bookmarks online, which enables you to access them from any computer.
Here's a link from Del.iciol.us--I love using it! http://del.icio.us/ |

Bell, I've signed up for de.licio.us
I'm still working it out. LOL. Do we have to add each other to "networks"? What are tags? I'm obviously still stuck in Web 1.0.

Re: Search Engine Propagation
TT,
I've got the AddThis bookmark button on the top nav. So far, 4 people have used it. Cool. Not tons of people, but at least someone has tried it. I've also got their Kaboodle shopping buttons on some of the products on the site, to test it out. Thanks for the other links as well.
