Former #1 eBay Seller Glacier Bay DVD (Randy Smythe) Speaks
I think eBay has made it pretty clear that they no longer want media sellers using the store inventory format. I just don't see how the numbers work for any media sellers, big or small, to use the Stores format with the current fees/visibility ratio. And it just doesn't make sense. List 40,000 items at Amazon for $40 a month. List 40,000 items in an eBay store, with less visibility, for AT LEAST $2,000 a month. It's not hard to do that math. Some smaller sellers may hold on longer, because they are willing and able to lose the smaller amounts of money, but I don't see how any "big guys" will be able to continue listing in the Store format with the new fees.

Other than that very brief period of time when stores were in search, my sell through has always been MUCH (as in several times) higher on Amazon than eBay Stores.
Amazon isn't perfect . . . just a lot better than eBay. (OK, so that's not saying much. ) |

No, Amazon isn't perfect. What company can please everyone though? I think Amazon is MUCH better then eBay by a looooooooooooooooooooong shot!
As a buyer, I am VERY comfortable shopping on Amazon. On eBay, I always felt any purchase was a "risk." PayPal would prefer people use their checking accounts for payment so they can screw 'em on a whim, but I always used my cc for my own PROTECTION. I love the part where PayPal asks, "Are you SURE you want to use your cc?' Yup, I'm sure! |

They currently have 1.7 million items listed on Amazon which cost them $40 monthly (before FVF)--compare that to the $85,000 monthly it would cost to list those same 1.7 million items in an eBay Store. :blinkie: Amazon's FVF fees are higher than eBay's, but the higher ASPs on Amazon more than negate the higher FVFs. |

I haven't figured out how to use the Quote feature yet so I'll just copy and paste.
Anita I don't think ANYONE minds paying fees, if they get what they are paying for!! That is exactly right. If eBay had found some way to improve the discovery of SIF the furor over the fee increase would have subsided by now. |

Also, in regards to kmak333 I'm trying to confirm a source that they were NARU'd for a 14-day period for some sort of violation. As soon as I get confirmation I'll let you know. The information I have appears to be accurate but I want to verify it. The problem with a 14-day suspension; is not many companies could survive that much time off.

Quote:I don't think ANYONE minds paying fees, if they get what they are paying for!! Very true. Since the world revolves around me today (Ann must be rubbing off on me) :twistedevil: , a good example was 10/04 when Marketworks nearly doubled their fees. I didn't complain because the money Marketworks was saving me (yes lurkers from eBay boardieland, time is money :twistedevil: ) far outweighed the fee increase. My complaints came later when service deteriorated in 2005. Most of my eBay complaints over the years have also revolved around b.itching about not getting what I was paying for (i.e. glitches) rather than b.itching about fee increases. Quote:The problem with a 14-day suspension; is not many companies could survive that much time off. very true--especially in the working for 'margins of pennies' land of ebay media selling 2006. |
