Just in time for the holiday shopping season, 18 states are preparing to clear the path this weekend for imposing online sales taxes.

On Saturday, the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SSTP) is expected to organize into a legal entity called the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board with 18 founding states. The 18 states admitted to the group represent 25.3 percent of the U.S. population.

The 18 states are Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Now so many can see what ebay has been about for the last few years.
Doing everything possible to GET users to DO what ebay wants.
You know why?
They knew this was coming and have actually tried to lobby against it.
Never the less,  they also knew the government would win.

And BIG biz loves it too.

Yep the latest policy change with all who offer PP on ebay is no doubt pressure from the govt.
Just one more piece of the pie.

eBay don’t like it. Small ebayers don’t (or wont), like it, BUT the Gov. Says DO IT.
And NOW ebay has to.

Hell they (ebay), could of just told us all upfront, and we would of all revolted “against” the Streamlined Sales Tax
Legislation Two or three years ago.
(Some tried to tell all of us, but  some were just chastised for speaking about it).

NOT ME OK???

No wonder you don’t see to many articles (in main stream press), of the BS we all have see over the last few years from feebay.

Illegal Monopoly, Fair Trade Violations, Coercion, Anti Competitive Conduct (perpetrated by ebay and others).
and many more SERIUOS violations of US LAW.

The NEW deal has some “immunity clauses”, obviously for some ebay corporate executives.

Gone unchecked or “LOOKED the other way” BY OFFICIALS in a “back room deal” with ebay.
Ebay’s DEAL was and is IMO, that ebay would “implement the provisions the GOV. wanted and  asked for.

Censorship is from close to the top, however I don’t think Bush can take credit on this.
This is all socialism, capitalism, pay backs, and ANTI TRUST (and few others work, at it’s finest)..

All in the interests of NATIONAL SECURITY???

How else will the TAX man get your real $$$ sold???

First off, its not THE GOV telling anyone... its the individual states telling sellers that they have to pay their share of the taxes like brick and mortar stores do.


I don't know about the northern states listed, but I do know AR, TN, NC... are very poor states. Hell, with the economy of CA and NY, I'm suprised they didn't jump in with it.

I hold a CA resale certificate... I have to collect taxes on items sold within the state of CA. I also still have my AR resale certificate... Also, two of my suppliers also charge me for taxes for sales within their states.

Think if it this way, "they" are gonna get your money one way or the other... If you pay personal state income tax (Texas is not on that list, nor does TX have personal income tax), this might.. doubtful, but just maybe... help some of that burden. When TX legalized limited gambling... it slowed down the personal income tax debates.

hey, I just read part of that article... So if they are under no obligation to collect the taxes then whats the worry... If the GOV was saying do it... then ALL the states would do it. Not just 18 states. 

As forthe ebay part... ebay has been driving out the small sellers there for some time... starting with the SMP glitch... double billing... and a host of other unethical policies and procedures. Ebay wants the branded names sellers. So, ebay wants to be the mall that all the stores rent.

If/when the tax becomes mandatory I can see eBay being forced to add a tool (tax calculator) to help small/part-time sellers figure out the taxes because the cost of buying software would be out of reach of many sellers, but I don't see eBay doing anything beyond that(or making it mandatory that sellers collect the taxes or be registered businesses). The last thing eBay wants to do is put itself in the transaction and risk jeopardizing its "only a venue" defense.

I don't think eBay will ever do anything to completely run the smallest sellers (the one's who are primarily buyers but occasionally sell an item when cleaning out their house) off the site because it needs them to remain on the site and buy from the mall-type sellers it is courting.  I do think however that the mid-sized sellers(the bronze and silver power sellers) could eventually be forced out of the market by a combination of rising fees and falling average selling prices..and that eBay wouldn't shed too many tears at their loss.

Amazon.com has already said it will not collect the tax.  At some point I do expect that when enough states join the Streamlined Sales Tax Project it will become mandatory for all online transactions.
