Internet Retailer Conference Preview
A sneak peek at the speakers' presentations:

A few  of the prsentations:

Quote: Site Search: Zero Results Ring Up Zero Sales
"Customers are impatient when presented with too many choices, especially if it takes several seconds to push away the less interesting ones," Susan Aldrich says. "Retailers understand the ideal of delivering the best choices up front." Susan Aldrich will explore how to deliver relevant results and how many to deliver, as well as how customers respond to various site search methods.

Quote: Site Usability: Better Navigation Keeps E-shoppers On Board
The cornerstones of a seamless and intuitive online browsing and shopping experience are a site’s organization, labeling, orientation, and navigation. Jennifer Bailey has done hundreds of usability audits, and will provide examples from dozens of top retail sites to show how poor usability, related to all those factors, has driven customers away and slashed online revenues.

I hope you do a better job of reporting the news back to TT than you did with IR 2006

Ecommerce 2.0 on display at IR2007
A related article:

Quote:I just spent the last two days at the Internet Retailer conference, and emerged convinced more than ever that we’ve just scratching the tip of the iceberg with ecommerce opportunities...

A lot of attendees were entrepreneurs running businesses doing single to double digit millions in revenues in categories ranging from diapers to skis, from power tools to blinds. While many had built their technology in house, there really isn’t any need to do that anymore. The sheer volume of vendors who can help with everything from the ecommerce platform to the affiliate and search engine marketing, from alternative payment systems to pick, pack and ship, was just remarkable. An entrepreneur willing to do the work to pick a good category and line up vendors could launch a business with very little technological expertise...

Quote:Jeremy Liew at Lightspeed Venture Partners just wrote an interesting post on E-Commerce 2.0 that describes how the various pieces of retailer logistics & supply chain are being web-enabled.  According to his Jeremy, now is a great time to be starting an internet retailer business -- startup costs are low, tech skills rqmts aren't high, and there are lots of great tools that enable a small team (or even individual) to run an online operation.  the playing field has been leveled, and almost anyone can jump in...

eBay Sellers Opt to Attend Internet Retailer Conference Instead of eBay Live
From ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo's eBay Strategies blog:

Quote:Every year June is flat out nutty because we have our biggest two shows of the year: Internet Retailer (IRCE) and eBay Live! (EL)  Historically IRCE was attended by Internet Retailers, both name brand and smaller, that are interested in our paid-search and comparison shopping engine solutions.  EL of course was dominated by eBay sellers looking to take their businesses to the next level with our Merchant and Pro solutions for eBay sellers.

This year, I felt like things were totally turned on their heads.  First, the IRCE has grown tremendously (seems to be doubling in attendance each year) and this year they reported 4,300 attendees.  The content at IRCE is very rich and there's something for the Walmart.com and target.com folks all the way to the smaller retailers.  What surprised me the most working the booth was the number of eBay seller-types that were at this show.  While I didn't do a formal count and obviously didn't meet everyone, I'd have to say at least 400 if not 600+ of the attendees got their start in ecommerce via eBay.  The eBay-selling crowd were veraciously absorbing information about other channels and were extremely interested in our CA Complete platform that would allow them to manage their existing eBay business while growing their off-ebay sales via paid-search, natural and CSE.

I asked every single one of them, "Will you be at eBay Live next week?". Down to the last one, the answer was 'no'.  Even some of the vendors have left EL, preferring to invest in the IRCE attendees...
