Yep. 16" on top of that table. Still have 14" unmelted, it's been so cold...
Dripping icicles outside my front door that faces north is making for a very hazardous trek every time we step outside. and there's nothing we can really do about it... |

Chiquita, I wouldn't count on any shovels arriving any time soon. And expect to be mobbed if they do !!

Chiquita, I wouldn't count on any shovels arriving any time soon. And expect to be mobbed if they do !! [/quote] I just wish I had 100 on hand. I would drive the truck up to a main road and sell them We have one, and we also used regular shovels too. It took 5 hours to clean the roof and another 2 just to do a few sidewalks, and a dig out a path to our vehicles parked in the back. I haven't darted any killer icicles, but they are getting bigger. :blinkie: |

Re: Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
It's times like these when I'm glad we have a pitched roof...
Flat roofs on old buildings do not hold up well under heavy, wet snow. I was sitting in Physics 101 in a really old lecture hall at UNM in winter of '68 or '69 when we had a snow/ice situation. Tiles started falling in around us. Never saw a hall empty out so fast. Not at first, of course -- just a bit of nervous or curious mumbling and gazing up at the ceiling when single tiles were sorta hanging there, swinging, then would drop one by one. The scattering happened when the slight creaking/groaning became a sudden loud roar...No one got hurt when the middle of the roof ended up on the floor -- along with who knows how many pounds of ice/snow/etc. I like my pitched roof and brick veneer... |

The pictures are beautiful--and I'm so glad that's your back yard and not mine. Snow in New York is pretty for a few hours and then quickly turns into a dingy black pollution covered slushy eyesore. I'd be very happy if the temperature here remained in the 50's for the entire Winter and we didn't have any snow this year.

Usually I would say that I'd rather have rain. You don't have to shovel it. But our roof is leaking and we can't do anything about it until Spring.
