I do too.

Really strange. We almost always have snow on the ground from Nov-Dec to April.

It is. And scary too. :blinkie:

Quote:There is another snow storm heading here this weekend. It has also been so cold that it will take a long time for this snow to melt.

I know...

I knocked snow off the Arizona Cypress you all saw in the image. The bottom branches were bent and almost broken. They're still drooping, even without snow on them.  Sad

We tried to go to petsmart today, but everyone was driving and acting like such a$$holes, we went to Albertson's again and bought Iams there. We couldn't even find parking at Petsmart that wasn't black ice (and everyone was forcing other people out of the way to get the good spaces).

What did you think of that Sandia Crest pic, Chiquita? Did you get to see it when it looked that way on New Year's Eve??

Thentavius,
What a great picture. Now that freezing fog was a trip. My oldest son actually had been up in the heights on New Years Eve, in a Jeep mind you and was spinning out. He came home and spent it with us, so you know the weather sucked.  ;D
He got home right before it really started rolling in at our house.

All your pictures are great. I wanted to take one of my evergreens, and the neighbors tree, but the rechargable batteries in my digital camera were dead. We went out into town today for the first time. All the retail parking lots were still a sheet of ice. I am glad they cancelled school for tomorrow. The schools we drove by today still hadn't even plowed out their parking lots for the buses yet alone all the side streets.

A Spring Hello? Cherry Blossoms Bloom In Brooklyn

Temperatures Expected To Climb Into Mid-50s Wednesday

(CBS) NEW YORK Whether it's because of global warming, El Nino, or just a really long warm front, weather in New York City this winter has been awfully strange. With temperatures continually hovering around the 50 degree mark and even occasionally nearing 60, perhaps the most bizarre weather-related incident happened in Brooklyn where cherry blossoms decided to make an early appearance.

At the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, it hardly seems like the dead of winter. Most cherry blossoms don't bloom until the beginning of spring when the winter chill finally begins to warm up. But there hasn't been a winter chill for most of the season, and for that reason, a cherry blossom tree was in practically full bloom on this the second day of January.

"It's very unusual. We have thousands and thousands of flowers on this tree," Dr. Mark Tebbitt told CBS 2.

The cherry blossom tree isn't the only confused species in the area. Turtles that are supposed to be hibernating right now are still going for a daily swim. Birds are plentiful, and the park still receives many visitors -- something they typically don't see during the winter.

People across the tri-state are enjoying what seems to be an early spring -- or is it a late winter? In Central Park today, the only ones in heavy coats were the dogs.

But the pleasant weather has been anything but for local ski resorts. At the Tuxedo Ski Center, the mountains were bare today. "I've been in this business for 18 years and have never seen anything like this," John Blandi of the resort said.

Blandi isn't alone -- New York City experienced its first snowless November and December for the first time since 1877. It's winter with the least amount of snow? You'd have to go back to 1973 when only 2.8 inches of snow fell.

When will winter arrive? It's anyone's guess -- for the time being, temperatures will continue to stay in the 50s in the region for at least the next four to five days.

Re: Winter Storm 12.29-12.31 New Mexico
I just discovered this thread.  Here's some pix I took around my house -- views from my front yard, back yard, icicles on the neighbor's house.  I was the only one in the area with a snow shovel.  Needless to say, I kept myself busy...  we got 16" -- that's not including what melted on Friday before it started sticking...

Below freezing - still - during the daytime.  Down to 5[sup]o[/sup] at nite....

Great pics Star. We had a shovel, not exactly a snow shovel, but it worked. Our neighbor had to borrow it. The hardware stores told him they might get a few in tomorrow.  :blinkie:

Whoo! Look at all the snow on the outside table and chairs. It looks like a cake.

We're at 19 degrees F right now. Supposed to get a little colder tonight. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 38.

I'm jealous!

SE Nebraska winters have been pretty pathetic the past several years...  Sad
