Guan Yin (also romanized as "Kuan Yin" "Quan Yin" or "Kwan Yin") is the Chinese goddess of compassion, the hearth, motherhood, childbirth, support, and protection. She has roots in ancient Hindu religious tradition and is currently venerated by Taoists, Buddhists, some Hindu and many who follow Chinese folk religions.

In Japan she is called Lady Kannon (or Gannon) and some scholars even believe she has connections to many of the supreme goddesses throughout the world. Her fascinating roots run deep. She is a connection between humans and the great feminine. The great earth mother.

Whatever your take on her lush history, Guan Yin is very much a modern presence. Seeing her calm, slightly smiling face can put us at ease, even in rough times. Her quiet sense of strength and thoughtfulness pervades every image of her. In this unique colored pencil sketch, Ren Adams has sought to give Guan Yin a more "real" face--taking away the colder look of porcelain or wood. Adding a flush of pink. A curl of coy humor. A twinkle in the eye.

Guan Yin is rendered in colorful shades, with her flowing headdress full of gentle, satiny ripples. She is done with professionally pigmented colored pencils on acid-free white paper. She is mounted with archival mat board and she's ready for framing. No frame is included. She can also be displayed as is.
