Title: The Traveler

Background:
This unique, original sketch captures a mysterious young monk from an ancient area, pausing from his lifelong journey to contemplate a sphere on a string. Is that tiny globe the Earth itself? Is it a representation of all things circular, balanced, and whole?

With a gentle, knowing grin, the monk watches those who watch him. A mandala (an ancient Buddhist and Hindu symbol representing all life and the universe in poetic connection) hovers behind him as clouds drift just beyond. He wears the flowing travel robes of a Taoist master and the clouds themselves lead one to think he may be more than meets the eye...

Done in graphite on white paper. The original sketch is 8 1/2"; x 11", mounted using professional materials in an 11" x 14" mat board. The mat opening is 8" x 10". Signed by Ren Adams. 2006.
